Default CBE Retardation - No more graded report cards

I guess actual grading isn't important, just ambiguous wording. Actually feel kind of bad for the kids going to school with this kind of stuff. Toss it in with "participation medals" and you'll have a whole bunch of kids hit with a massive shock in the real word.

Under the changes, students who would normally see an A, B, C, or a D on their report cards will now see “exemplary, evident, emerging, or needs support."

Not a big deal if its for K-6 students only.

I remember my report card grades were Outstanding, Excellent, Average, Needs Improvement in elementary. There were no grades and really they weren't necessary at that age.

Do they even fail kids in school these days? I just noticed there is no "F" or "Failed" on the old/new metric.

Gonna have a bunch of soft sissy ass adults coming up into the workforcer in a few years.

I personally didn't care about grades in high school but if someone used the term "needs support" on my report card to grade me I'd lose it.. That would absolutely 100% make me feel like I'm a idiot and dumb.

Thank god by the time I'll be near retiredment or retired and won't have to care. Current generation is bad enough.

No. Or at least its near impossible to be "held back".

This isn't so much the CBE's fault but probably more a case of helicopter parents who don't with their little one to be emotionally scarred because of some sort of grading system.

So to all of you Beyond members with kids coming up through the system and there's probably lots of you - get off your asses and make your concerns known to your trustee/principal because you sure as hell know that the helicopter parents are doing just such.
    Will fuck off, again.

Why is everyone getting their panties up in a bunch? For K-6, this makes perfect sense IMHO. As pointed out, when I was in elementary in the 80s, it was something like "incomplete, unsatisfactory, satisfactory, excellent" or somewhere along those lines. I never got grades on my report card. The point is, elementary is useless anyway (and really one can argue so are grades 7-12 and first few years of uni). AFAIK, kids can't fail (er... be 'held back') without parental consent, and this has been the way since, well, FOREVER.

I believe my teachers wanted to hold me back at some point in elementary but my parents said no. And I (would think) I am no worse for wear..

I like how everyone is outraged that children aren't being judged harshly based on their work ethic and effort in class but teachers are in unions, never graded, never reviewed, cannot be fired and even if they got a bad report.

If you wanna talk about a generation of lazy pussies that never take criticism just look at the majority of teachers.
Kids can't be held back a grade and this is an outrage? What about teachers that cannot be fired for being incompetent and destroying the intellect of entire generations of kids?

Look at the generations that had harsh report cards, they've turned out to be the most war lusting, money craving, fashion obsessed, obese, illiterate idiots ever.

A lot of elementary schools haven't had letter grades for a number of years instead going to a number system 5=A, 4=B, 3=C, etc. This is just the same stuff, four levels (no F) with different labels.

What I'm NOT happy about is the fact that this year our school went from three report cards down to two. All CBE schools will move to this format for the upcoming year. We didn't get our first report card until after Christmas and that is far too deep into the school year. If a kid is struggling it's half way through the year before the parents really know where little Johnny stands. And contrary to what public opinion would lead you to believe, MOST parents do care where things are at. It's the vocal minority that create shit for everyone else.

Its not about conformity when measuring aptitudes against benchmarks. Attitude, sure, but not aptitude.

So kids won't get an 'A' for being good at being babysat for 6 hours a day?

Don't they still do those Parent/Teacher interviews in between report cards?

Agreed, I never had "grades" at that age either, this is nothing new or alarming.

Grades beyond "pass" mean nothing until High School, and even then, only really if you have very specific aspirations. I don't see any issues with this at all.
