The Best and Worst of Beyond

A while ago I was doing some reading on Reddit and came across a very interesting thread. Basically they went through their worst/lowest/most horrible moments they've had as an online community. Some messed up shit.

I haven't been around Beyond for a crazy long time, but I loved the Reddit thread due to the online community going "yeah, we dropped the ball on that one."

With that said, what are the lowest Beyond moments you can remember? To keep things fair to our online community, what are the best Beyond moments (helping out, compassion, etc.) you can remember?

Personal opinion of course, but

Highest moment was the Claw, hilarity and one of a few moments of Beyond members finding a criminal.

Lowest moment was Beyond chasing out a regular member over one mistake (which was more of a miscommunication that escalated quickly), even though that person helped out quite a few members, and the Beyond community (with group organization etc.)

Best? If I think about the things that consistently make me chuckle, it's the pictures, memes and gif's KVG adds to threads that have already gone off the rail. I know that's not a single moment but when a threads topic is getting far to serious you can almost always count on him to cut the tension.

Worst? Arash, hands down

The worst I would say would be the whole Banerjee fiasco...

The best was probably both the Claw thread, and power wheelchair lady. But with the Claw, Beyond achieved (very short lived) international fame, I remember the non stop slough of people joining beyond from all over the (english speaking) world, just to check in that unbelievably huge thread.
It made the news in several TV stations and even newspapers.

The worst? Besides Arash, probably when a friend of mine Russ, (forget his username on here) had his work called, and he was basically fired over lies, that were told just because of a minor disagreement on here.... that to me was seriously over the line.

This was the precursor to beyond's "Claw" international fame. Within hours it almost shut down the site and Shelton had to bring in new quad-core servers to handle the load. Members joined from all over the world, and it hit front page of Calgary Sun , Interviews on Jack FM, CTV Interviews with Shelton, and the Calgary Herald.

By the time the Claw incident hit, the groundwork was already in placed. Instantly views broke one million, as the readership was already in place world wide by then.

The lowest point for me was when we learnt of Orrin's death. Beyond was only a year old at the time and everyone knew everyone, a true tight knit community.

Lowest point for me was when we had that guy who stuffed 20s under his red 5.0L Mustang and took a lot of heat in general, then crashed an SUV full of people while drunk driving and wound up pretty brain-damaged. Then he came back to the forum every month or so to tell people not to drive drunk and you could tell he was halfway to a vegetable. It was a weird mixture of sad and stupid, and kinda depressing to think about now.

Highlights were the Claw, power wheelchair lady and especially the photoshop contests that we used to have.

I was a kid when I joined. Ill never forget the PMs "warning" me of being a member of abcars.net hahahha. "Its us or them".

I remember this, I didn't know he was a member prior to those posts. Super depressing to read those.

I don't think Beyond has a whole lot of low points. There are enough level-headed members that most witch hunts get cut off before they happen.

I remember the Spoons thing and I'm pretty sure it wasn't a minor disagreement; that both sides had ample opportunity to diffuse the situation but continued to escalate it. Still a fucked up move to bring real life into an online argument though.

For high points, getting that guy dying of cancer to drive an R8 was pretty fantastic.

That was a pretty sad thing, but it wasn't a low point for Beyond.

However, how everyone made fun of him, and treated him afterwards was a pretty low point for Beyond IMO.

And yeah, it was Madsella.

High points for me were
-Cancer R8 dude
- how a lot of beyonders got together in different ways to help the condo fire victims
- How a bunch of Beyonders came to my rescue when I was in that bad accident (and hence why I am always quick to offer help here)
- The claw thread
- scamerjee
-acura hit and run on camera
-damn near every legal threat against beyond
-10 year anniversary meet
- I met my most awesome Fiancee because of Beyond.
