60 days for killing your daughter?

LONGUEUIL, QUE.—A Quebec man who slapped his teenage daughter so hard she died has been sentenced to 60 days in jail.

Moussa Sidime is expected to serve his time two days a week over 30 weeks.

He was sentenced Wednesday in court in Longueuil, south of Montreal.

The 74-year-old man had pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of his 13-year-old daughter Noutene in October 2010.

The court heard Sidime struck her because he didn’t like how she’d completed a chore and because she had been disrespectful.

It was Sidime who called 911 himself after finding the girl unconscious minutes later. She died after a few days in hospital.

The Crown was seeking a prison sentence.

Sidime’s lawyer had argued for leniency, calling the death an exceptional case.

Manslaughter and murder are two very different things.

I wouldn't be shocked to hear that he's served a bunch of pre-trial time and is getting credit for it. That would explain a lot of him on having to serve 60 days and 2 years probabtion upon conviction.

Saw the article too.. Obviously a freak accident; I am sure the father feels like shit right now and had no intention of killing her. His crime is manslaughter and his time is for child abuse. Really though all those people talking about how they were beat as a kid and that corporal punishment is OK should be agreement with his sentence.

i think he's bullshitting and covering his tracks. could've been an honor killing that's being covered up by the family.

yes, freak accidents happen but that'd be like he popped some champagne and the cork hit the girl in the face killing her. thats a freak accident in my mind, not hitting someone in the face as hard as you can and expecting there to be no damage. whether or not he expected her to die, he definitely expected her to feel pain and his actions are much more inherently dangerous than the alternatives (aka talking to your child.)

what could they go on other than the official story?

if there's no one to speak up for the victim, how can we know for sure?

im just speculating however, (should have noted that) but when some muslim family ends up with a dead teenage daughter...im very suspicious. and considering this dude is in his damn 70s, had a kid at 61...he's probably got multiple wives and a very large family, inside or out of canada.
