Interesting. Wouldn't mind trying some schiit stuff out. I have been pretty content lately with my stuff since avoiding clem's posts

I thought I killed my amp/dac the other day but GTAV on PC is just being shitty. I still would like the schiit mini dac for my macbook.

Anyone can come out but I would highly recommend setting up an account on head-fi and posting in the thread just to get a head count. Otherwise just drop me a note and I'll post it in the thread.

Yeah.... The meets are pretty bad for that LOL.

I'll bring my rig along. And as stated in the thread, bring a USB drive (preferably with FLAC files LOL) so you can go around and listen to other people's setups but with your music. You don't have to bring equipment or anything if you don't want. n00bs always welcome to these.

Okay, let me check my schedule. Hopefully I can go.

I want to hear for myself the difference headphone amps make especially to something as mundane as Spotify.

I know my home rig is enough to power my Grados but looking for portable options to power my IEMs.

Speaking of which, I lost the last pair of fittings for my A-Jays Two so I just DIY 3M earplugs in and it sounds better lol.

This is pretty neat idea for a meet. I've been going hard on massdrop lately, but still need a few things.

How do you guys feel about letting 20 strangers try on your headphones for a couple of hours? I wonder if there is a general understanding that everyone will be showered with clean ears prior to arriving...

Doesn't bother me. I've been to 2 or 3 of these and people are very respectful of other people's equipment. I don't think hygiene really needs to be mentioned. The thing is that people who show up will have their hundreds/thousands in equipment and will handle other's stuff like their own.

In the end, it's very respectful and everyone is well behaved and I am sure we won't hesitate to kick out someone who isn't.

Anyway like I said, if you are interested in joining, PLEASE make an account on head-fi and reply to the thread.

There is also a bunch of people there that go, OMG you need to try this and pass you head phones to try on. I haven't been to a meet in a long time but it is always fun.

I want to pick up some over the ear noise cancelling headphones for using while woodworking. So far I'm looking at the Klipsch Mode M40's (for $225) as they seem like a sturdy dust proof design. Any other recommendations under the $300 mark?

Edit: I'm currently using UE6000's but I find the NC is really weak.

Really, I find the NC quite good having used them mainly on airplanes even sitting next to engines. I would say then look at the bose QC25 as their noise cancelling is pretty awesome. Currently $329

I've mentioned it before: the UEs are terrible for NC. The Bose QCs are pretty much the best; so much so in fact that they actually give me a headache after a few minutes, so do try them before you buy. I've net yet actually heard a pair of Klipsch that I like. Not to mention the pair I tried were also insanely uncomfortable. Maybe Best Buy might have a pair for you to test (and $225 is really getting up there for a pair of consumer grade cans).

I can't exactly recommend usage of headphones while woodworking though. But if you must, why not something in ear? A good pair IEMs plus foam/comfort tips (which are essentially earplugs) will block out sound way more effectively then anything over ear. I can't use the rubber tips but can easily wear the foam tips for at least an hour.

I find I can only wear IEM's for so long no matter what the tips. If I'm working for 4 hours I definitely need music and I find over the ear way more comfortable. Right now I'm building cabinets, so it's not constant noise.

Thanks for the tips, I'll take a look at the Bose and see if they're right for me.

Calgary Audiology Clinic in Kensington did a couple different sets for me.

As far as over ear headphones, I like my Sennheiser HD 380 Pro's. Not active cancelling but they seal pretty well.

Ryan, I believe there is a company that makes custom mold IEMs and they don't ram down your ear. Custom 3 something? Clem, anything come to mind?

I think Soundwave hearing makes custom molds. And Viper55555 already mentioned another one too.

Anyway just me but wouldn't cables and the headphones themselves get in the way when working? Why not buy a nice set of speakers?

Any recommendations for over-ear wireless headphones to be used specifically for TV/HT (i.e. NOT with an iPod or other mobile). Budget around $250. I'm asking on behalf a coworker, and she was going to buy Beats, which I automatically assume are overpriced for what you get, so I thought I would check with you folks in case there is something better out there. TIA

    EDIT:

Doing my best to narrow it down on my own, looking at Sennheiser RS 160, 170, 180, 175 models. Compared to Beats Solo 2, does anyone have an opinion?

Interesting product so I guess it all depends on how it sounds. Burr Brown DAC with proprietary processing by Creative. It's use of Op Amps for headphone amplification doesn't really excite me too much though.

Neat that it's got built in amps but it's true usable output power isn't really known - I see 100W thrown out there but that's actually 50WPC into 4 ohms @ 10% THD (YIKES) while they are quoting 8 ohms @ 1% (still YIKES) gives 20 WPC so at respectable THD figures it's likely closer to 10 which should still be decent for driving speakers close to your computer. But still having a power amp is a bonus here more than anything.

Also a reminder the head-fi meet is this Sunday. Any of you going?

I forgot to update this. I ended up picking up the Bose QC25 and they're amazing for my purpose. The NC works insanely well with the noise from my tools. I was after a combo of hearing protection and listening to music so speakers wouldn't have been ideal.
