Default "Using truecrypt is not secure"

    Possible website defacement? Something more?

    This is nuclear.

    Gonna be an interesting day.

It is hard to say if this is real or not. Either way, I would feel comfortable just not downloading the newest version and keeping my current data encrypted as is. As far as I know, TrueCrypt is one of the best crypto solutions to date and seemed to pass a recent independent audit (in a somewhat shaky way).

Good to know thx, I was going to build another TC system but I guess that ship has sailed. Interesting times for sure in the industry.

What does this have to do with talking to authorities?

There is a large amount of suspicion that the developers simply don't want to work on it anymore and the message is their way to tell people to "piss off".

    Lots of Interesting theories abound.

Others have suggest it's a warrant canary - A duress signal that the feds were trying to subvert the project.

Seems a little "Late in the game" for me.

As observed by others, the wording of the warning itself is interesting:

"WARNING: Using TrueCrypt is not secure as it may contain unfixed security issues"

Nobody posted this yet, so I thought I would update with the latest conspiracy theories.

It has been said recently, that TrueCrypt is unsafe. See the warning on the TrueCrypt Site:
    http://truecrypt.sourceforge.net/

"WARNING: Using TrueCrypt is not secure as it may contain unfixed security issues"

On this site the advice to change to Bitlocker. Bitlocker is safe? LOL – must be a joke!
    "Migrating from TrueCrypt to BitLocker:"

    There is a hidden message!
Take the first letters of the warning:

“uti nsa im cu si” now put this in the google translator, from Latin to English and you receive:

“If I wish to use the NSA”

    (O)_______(O)

    Interesting. This isn't Latin, though....

I suspect that this was just a matter of google helpfully morphing nonsense into pattern.

Pareidolia, on the other hand, is still greek to me!

I just did a bit of playing with google translate. Seeing if I could get the same sentence to translate into anything meaninful in other languages.

Many of the outcomes were "almost there", but I quickly hit pay dirt with Bosnian:

    "I hear they're nsa"

(And it's probably not really Bosnian, either...)
