Would like some insight on this situation I've been going through.
I bought a used car from a local dealer who serviced the vehicle from day one. Prior to the purchase I skimmed over the service records on the salesman's computer and didn't see anything out of the ordinary so let's say the dealership doesn't have anything to hide per se.
Anyways now the purchase has been completed I'd like to have a print out of those records so I can compile a full vehicle history in the event I choose to sell the car. After asking them, I've been informed it goes against their privacy policy and most certainly can't be done.
Now I can understand they aren't going to release the previous owner's name, address, etc.. However I feel a black sharpie/ MS paint can quickly eliminate any of these worries.
Curious to know from anyone in the industry why these service records are so cherished since it's acceptable for someone look at them (which oddly enough allowed me to see the previous owner's info) yet they refuse to produce a printed copy.
If you've bought a used car, did you get the same run around?
TIA
