International Driving Permit

Has anyone here obtained their International Driving Permit from CAA? How long did it take to arrive, or do you get it right there on the spot?

I got one about 7 years ago from them. From what I remember they did it on the spot.

It was immediate last time I got one through AMA, you get this little booklet with a stamp.

Got mine through AMA as well and it was immediate, just had to pay for it.

Yes it's immediate. Also, don't forget to bring your actual driver's license on the trip with you as well :P

Make sure you need it. In a lot of countries, you will only need your driver's license.

Its worth getting IMO. Many places its not needed but handy to have just in case.

I got one when I went to the Philippines in November, can only get it at AMA and need passport pictures which you can also get at AMA at the same time

Interestingly in the state of Georgia, if you have a Quebec driver's license, you are required to have an international driver's permit for the law states that your license must be in English and GA rental companies strictly enforce that. It still doesn't explain the time this one agent told me that she couldn't accept my license for it said "Operator's license" and not "Driver's license."
