Default Would you pass a police car?

Say a marked police car is going down Deerfoot doing 95-100kph.

Would you pass him (at a reasonable speed, obviously not bombing by at 115+)?

In the past I would have said yea, but then today I got pulled over for passing one doing 105.

So now I'm changing my answer to hell no

Absolutely, If a police officer is going 100kph, i'll pass going 105-110ish. No point driving unreasonably slow and acting suspicious.

That ticket is never going to make it into the system.

Yes I'll pass them. You getting a ticket won't change that for me as I don't drive around with a V8 and straight pipes, lol.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

I would never pass a police car speeding. Even if it's 5 over, it's technically speeding and if he feels like being a dick, he can pull you over like he did for you. However, I do pass alot of officers going speed limit. Yesterday I was doing 50km/hr downtown and I passed an officer doing 45. Not to say that I never speed but I just never pass a cop doing so, no matter how little it is over the speed limit. Not worth risking getting a ticket just to drive 5km/hr faster.

Bingo. If I cook up behind a police car then stand on my brakes when I notice it, I'm not going to pass him! Having said that, I've passed many police cars on HWY 2 that are going 100km/h. I won't speed while doing so. My tint and exhaust already give the police enough reasons to pull me over, no sense pushing my luck.

I always pass police cars going 10 over the limit. Never had a problem. The other day, I passed one then changed into his lane in an intersection, while downshifting and exhaust farting right in his face. No problems!

I've talked to one officer who feels the law is the law and if you break it in front of him you will get a ticket. Unless on a call of course.

I will do 5-10 over but never past a traffic unit.

But in all seriousness, I'd have to agree with ercchry.

105... that's brutal. Doubt it will stick however. Still the inconvenience of being ticketed is a PITA.

EDIT: AE92_TruenoSC, how do you tell whether it's a traffic unit?

I try to pass them if they're going under the speed limit. Biggest problem I have with that is most people don't, so there's frequently a bottle neck of people pacing the cop car.

Depends on how many dead hookers I have in the trunk at the time.

Depends on context. If it's on Deerfoot or Stony, absolutely, I'll go 110 past them. If it's a two-lane 60 road, probably not.

    Exactly.... each situation is unique.

Unmarked vehicles are also used by the traffic division and they are very quick to give chase.

For marked GD units, normally you would have to do something pretty dumb before you get hosed - depends on the members of course.

This actually played a fairly big role in me getting rid of my white ex-cop car Crown Vic.

No one would pass me..... so I would always speed cause I'd get tired of having a parade of 40 cars behind me everywhere I went.
Was even worse at night, as the car still had all of its reflective tape.

Then after I got pulled over for doing 10 over in it I decided I had enough of that.

if you were in a 100km/h zone i thought u had to do 111km/h (11km/h over the limit) before they can ticket you?? Did that change? Definately go fight it!!!!!

Add to that, the cop sounds like he was baiting people, to my knowledge that does not hold up in court. Ive watched a semi with a trailer pass a cop doing 120km/h on deerfoot.......more than a few times.

^^ Very wrong. Speeding is speeding. Even while passing.
