Hey I just wanted to give you guys an update incase any of you were worried. My all-star oilers managed to keep the streak alive. After assembling a solid first period they realized they might have a chance at winning and promptly gave up two short handed goals in the first two minutes followed by another power play goal to seal the deal. Ten games baby! Longest streak of its kind in the NHL this season so far!

I was watching that game. 2 shortys in a PP with the same guy, a rookie, that was drafted by the oilers and traded to Arizona. You can't make this shit up. I'm feeling pretty bad for oilers fans at this stage.

Get rid of Mctavish, and the rest will fall into place. The problem isn't the team or goaltending coaches, it's the front office.

Getting rid of MacT won't do anything and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt since he's only been GM for a little over a season and I consider him to be a pretty smart guy. He just hasn't done much because he can't do much. If he does any trades right now, he's going to get fleeced because he's dealing from a position of weakness. If he doesn't do anything, he looks inadequate. He's caught in a shitty situation.

What does need to be done for the Oilers to turn it around is is Lowe has to be fired because he's meddling in things that he shouldn't be. He went from a player, to assistant coach, to head coach, to GM in a span of 3 years. He's completely inexperienced.

Even Renney acknowledged that Lowe ordered him to play the young kids more when they shouldn't have because they had to sell hope to the fans:

And of course, Souray even came out and said management told him to play even though he was injured.

What needs to be done is Lowe has to be fired and replaced with Bob Nicholson. They also need to dismantle their core and start all over, except for maybe Hall. The losing attitude is already ingrained in them and they'll never get ahead with that group. Trotz said last year when they acquired Dubnyk that he had developed some really bad habits from the Oilers that he was going to have to unteach.

It isn't just a coincidence that the only people who have publicly spoken out against the team this year are all the new guys that haven't been there long. First Perron, then Scrivens. Even Ference said last night after the loss that a lot of the players in that room have a real shitty attitude and they need to smarten the fuck up.

At this point, I don't think a house cleaning will even help unless they admit to a failed rebuild of a rebuild and start a brand new rebuild.
Plus, all of the potential GMs and coaches know how shitty of an organization the Oilers is and won't bother putting their names in the hat. I would not be surprised if Mark Messier becomes GM and Steve Smith becomes the coach if they decide to replace Lowe.

I think that if they get rid of Lowe and Mctavish, preferably at the same time, then the Oilers become an attractive place to go to for other GMs and such. The team just OOZES talent, but has zero direction, and should be a pretty decent team.

For whatever reason, those 2 just can't be removed. They must have some pretty awesome photos of team ownership in a compromising position or something.

I say this as a past Oilers fan, who can't believe just how far this team has sunk.

Even as a Flames fan, it hurts to see another team like this, even if it is the Coilers.

The marketing guys for the Oilers cranked out that hashtag last season, intending for it to be a rallying cry for the fans and the team. They posted it for a bunch of dumb shit like vine videos of the Oilers wandering out of the dressing room for a game. Of course, the Oilers shit up the season and it turned into a big joke among the league.

Some of the tweets with it are great though.
