    Default Baby voles

Found these little buggers last night in my backyard. I uncovered them when I kicked a suspicious tuft of dead grass near my deck. I would have liked to "take care" of them properly but the wife wouldn't let me harm them. So, I put them back in their nest/hole & re-covered them with grass. Hopefully nature takes its course and something eats them.

So many people I've talked to this year have had vole problems, in all different quadrants of the city. I know they're around in my neighbourhood (Panorama Hills) but I've never seen them, let alone a litter of pups.

    They're almost kinda cute... almost.

get rid of them while you can. They are difficult to get rid of once established.

What with all of the fucking gophers in the City now too?

When I was stopped on Macleod trail north by 5th Avenue, I noticed there were hundreds of the fucking things running around all the green space.

I've never seen gophers this bad, out east on my farm or inside the City. It's crazy. Makes for a good Sunday afternoon of target practice though..

Agreed, prepare for your lawn to be ruined.

By handling them their mother may now reject them. You may have doomed them unknowingly (or knowingly?).

From what I read as long as you have a healthy lawn they will just move on.

We had these when we had out acreage, I thought it was a vole, but after seeing the neighborhood cat play with one I believe they were pocket gophers. The little bastards were (and probably are) all over the SW by Wentworth and whatnot.

I would buy the smoke bombs from UFA and they worked awesome. We had the exterminators come in originally but that was expensive and didn't work at all since they tried to poison them.

These buggers messed up my front and back lawns so I think you will have to deal with them. I still have some dead patches but was able to make most of my grass come back (it was dead to the dirt where they tunneled under the snow) with top soil and grass seed.

I had to look up what a Vole was, turns out it's what I thought was the mice that my SO's cat regularily eats and bats into the air, if you guys are saying they fk up the grass, then there are voles in my backyard but again, SO's cat takes care of that more or less.

Hope that works because when I had them they got under my concrete step. They didn't take the poison...I couldn't smoke them out....I couldn't flood them out. I even threw a dead Gopher under there thinking that may get them to leave. I tried everything I could think off. The only thing that got rid of them was the exterminator.

I checked on them last night, mama vole must've moved them. I'm hoping that keeping my grass short will at least prevent them from nesting where my daughter could find them. I hadn't mowed in a couple weeks.

These things are a nasty problem for sure and they're really hard to get rid of. My moms neighbors had to replace sod last year because of these things.

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

I've got them on my front lawn and they have managed to dig under the front concrete slab.

Does anyone know of a home made recipe for napalm?

Same thing happened to me when I lived in Kincora too. Fucking voles destroyed our lawn. I found a nest of babies too, but I'm not one to kill anything helpless so I put them back hoping something else would find them and rid them for me.
