Does anyone know if these can be put up without having bylaw knocking on your door?

I have a 8x10 in my backyard next to a established garage and haven't had any issues.
I'm thinking its ok depending on the neighbors you have around you and it doesn't look bad.
how does it hold up in mid january -30 and heavy snowfall?Originally posted by firebane

What heavy snowfall in January? January is never a heavy snowfall month in Calgary - that's the realm of March and April when those spring blizzards roll in.
And -30C in January only 2 days of -30C or more in the past 5 years and only 9 days total where the low temperature dipped below -30C in the last 5 years.
Back on topic, the neighbour across the street had a temp garage like the OP is speaking to and it held up great for the 5 years he had it and then he sold it to someone else.
Will fuck off, again.
My friends father had one of these for about 20 years, never heard any issues with bylaw. I assume it held up fine in winter, but you could always get one of those snow rake things to clear it.
Never had a problem. When it snowed and it built up on the roof I'd go outside and just knock it off.Originally posted by harv91

The funny thing is the outer material has these little squares on it and it now comes off.
So if you go into the shop you end up with a bunch of material on you but it kept everything of mine inside dry all last year.
The bylaw says anything above 10 square meters (107 square feet) needs a permit.
So you can safely put up a 10' by 10' shed without needing a permit (provided it's done properly otherwise)
I see these popping up everywhere now.
So far I have two neighbours all within viewing distance who have these installed in their yards. Not a fan. It's the el cheapo garage so I hope they don't stand up in -30 so they get removed.
Seems like they're the latest fad. I'd be happier with seeing a cargo container placed in it's place.
So the what the OP is looking at is 10'x20' which would put it outside of the scope of the bylaw - personally I'd call the 311 people to hopefully get a better understanding but my suspicion is that most of these temporary garage type structures go up without any permits.Originally posted by pheoxs

I'm doubtful there's any permits. One of my neighbours easily has one of these large 10'x20', which he boosted off the ground by about 4' so he can park a boat and other toys inside.
