Realistically, there should be no residential developments near the airport period and you won't have this problem. If anyone is to blame it's the city zoning these areas as residential decades ago.
Slow down, we don't NEED planes, we can cycle. This is 100% the airports fault for allowing people the miracle of flight.

I'm probably missing something obvious here, but how about using noise cancellation devices on aircraft?

Hold-up, It is the bicycle mechanics Oliver and Wilber Wright (The Wright brothers) that created the miracle of flight..

    So blame bicycles.

There is no need for the airplanes to be traveling faster than 30 km/h.

True. Flying is a privilege not a right.

    Does he really?

I thought he'd get some mayor's 'white house' or something

They have as much "noise cancellation" as possible, and lose engine efficiency because of it. There are flight deck procedures that can reduce the noise a little more (and also burn more fuel because of it), but not enough to appease most people.

Well I guess the people are going to have to wear noise cancellation headphones

    No.

But what if suddenly there are more trains, and they're louder?

There's two sides to this - It's not as simple and satisfying as "christ people are stupid".

Further proof of the BANANA way of thinking....

BANANA an acronym for Build Absolutely Nothing Anywhere Near Anything ... Maybe place the pipelines, airports and race tracks on the moon?

how many people live along the flight paths?

that number x $20 a pair for these:

would be cheaper than moving the airport

Except there aren't any more planes landing or taking off than 3 months ago. The only difference is the new runway puts them over top of different neighborhoods now.

Personally, I've seen less air traffic above my house because of it

Also, the new runway was planned before Skyview had even dug a hole. If people weren't so stupid, they'd do their research before buying close to an airport.

Unless I got something signed from all of the companies that use that specific railroad stating 'we will never increase the volume of traffic or level of noise produced by the vehicles on the track', then too bad for me.

If anyone chooses to live near a railroad, highway, airport, whatever, they know, or should know, that they're always going to have to deal with noise...

If you take anything I have to say seriously, you're gunna have a bad time.

Risk of owning real estate. There are any number of things that could negatively impact your property value. I lived on a road that got busier and busier over the years. Eventually had to wear ear plugs to bed. Didn't think once about complaining to the city.

You are expecting way too much now, research? Don't be crazy. Next thing they will notice that they are surrounded by industrial areas too!

edit: oh look, it is paying off already!!!!!!!!!

Fair enough. I'm a little uncomfortable with with the self-satisfied hardass positions some have taken in this thread, but your words are reasonable.

Truth be told, this thread has reminded me that I live near industrial noise. Forgot I did, as you just get used to it. Occasionally one has to shout when talking to a neighbor, but it's just a normal part of neighborhood life.

Actually just had a plane fly over the house that was so loud I went to see what it was-just a passenger jet.

Live in Coventry and have for a long long time, definitely an increase in noise. And yes, sometimes during winter the house shakes from planes taking off so can only imagine it will be worse this year.

Could they at least use the old runways at night or not have flights landing between 1-5 am or something? Don't they have at time restriction at the Toronto airport?

So you want them flying over other houses at night instead of yours? This is like sagemeadows all over again
No major airports run 24/7, there can be no downtime.
