this is what detonation can do to your pistons . time for JE pistons and crower rods
oh yeah, sorry for the quality of these pics. my scanner sucks.

ouch dood...
omgwtfbbq
it kinda looks like a rust stain then again, i dunno much about pistons or whatever...
lol. hehe. actually i wasn't the one that blew the piston. i got this engine from another friend to rebuild. the cylinder walls are good, just needs new pistons and rods
Nah, that isn't that bad the pistons are still in one piece
hehe someone didn't pay attention to AFR's =)

Ouch... that's hurtin...
i don't know the whole story behind this engine but the last owner lent his car to a friend and lets just say his car just didn't run the same when he got it back . causes i don't know. could have been a couple of things.
Is that the old motor out of HOK's car? Damn it, I've met the guy a couple of times and damned if I can remember his real name now...Josh? I think?
HOK that drives the rally blue RS? that would be him . his name would be josh. actually he was the one that took these pictures too. i bought the engine from him to rebuild so i wouldn't have as much down time with my car when i put the turbo and everything else in.
Cool. He seems to like the turbo 2.2 out of the legacy he's got under the hood now. Not a bad motor, interesting alternative to doing a EJ20T swap.
the ej22t(legacy turbo) engine does seem pretty reliable with a fair amount of boost. i don't know if its wise of me to build a ej25 because most tuners i've talked to tell me the cylinder walls are too thin, the block can't handle that much power, and such. so i figure either i would prove them worng and build up the ej25 or swap the ej22t in because they are probably right. i went with building the ej25 for some strange reason so i guess we'll see if i can get this thing tuned good enough to run fairly reliable . if this doesn't work out i'll save up for a ej20 swap of somesort.
i think the most important thing i've learned so far is to not let *cough*jack ho that drives a legacy*cough* touch your car.
I don't know who all these "tuners" that have so little good to say about turboing a 2.5L motor are, but they really should sit down and take a hard look at what shiv pathak has managed to do with it. He managed to get a turbo 2.5L putting out 300hp reliable as sunshine, but you still here everybody and their dog saying that theres too much wrong with the design of the motor to make big power with them
And I'll refrain from saying anything about Jack, good bad or ugly
4wheeldrift your warren right? whats your opinion on the 2.5L, do you think it can handle a decent amount of boost? to be honest i get so much mixed opinion on this. i don't know if you can compare one of SCC's project cars to something that we would build because it seems they have unlimited funds. not something that we can do in our garage's.
i agree with you on the the issue about jack
Isn't detonation good for the motor? it just shows that you are running nice and LEAN!!!
I have a friend who had a 2.5L RS with a turbo installed. I remember it ran about 8psi. It had a piggyback AFC type fuel controller, but wasn't dialed in properly. The engine lasted about 2400km before it blew up. It was fun while it lasted =).Originally posted by 2000impreza

The turbo kit also interfered with the MAF sensor. It blew up about 4 times ($400 a pop!).

looks like a minam kit from hongcouver. Did he run the road course ever?
Right on both counts. It was William's car. He's in Hongcouver now.
