Angry Police looking for stolen classic car

    http://www.newstalk770.com/2014/07/2...n-classic-car/

Heartbreak for a Calgary car enthusiast.
Sometime on the weekend of July 12th and 13th, he found that his red 1962 Chevrolet Corvette convertible was taken from a parking spot on Bonaventure Drive.
The car had been parked in an outdoor lot, covered by a tarp, and was locked and padlocked, but the padlock was cut off.
The 73-year-old owner has had the car for more than 40 years.
Anyone who has seen the car is asked to call police.

    Oh shit.

I imagine whoever stole that car had planned it a long time and knew what they were doing. I imagine it's down somewhere in Mexico by now getting a new VIN...

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

My Grandfather's 68 corvette was stolen in Ontario back when I was a kid in like '95 or so. Trail went cold, but 2 years later, my grandfather got a call from CBSA stating they found it in Vancouver in a shipping container headed to Abu Dhabi (SP?) along with 2 other classics, and was found during a random inspection and x-ray of a seacan.

In discussions with CBSA, apparently these old classics are easily recognizable, and hard to hide, so thieves pretty much steal them, and immediately put them into a seacan and ship em out of country to a place where it does not matter if it is hot or not.

Either way, I will be keeping an eye out, but the chances of anyone seeing it being driven is slim to none, and slim left town.

Seen on my local Facebook news page that someone may have spotted it at a gas station in downtown Red Deer. Driver was young/Caucasian and of course, fueled up and sped off.

Not confirmed or anything... just sayin'.

    Sure, why not?

This poor bastard is out a lot more than an average civic or intergra owner. Not just in terms of replacement cost, but due to the rarity it would be much more difficult to replace.

If it is such a valuable car would you not have somewhere more secure to store it other than with a tarp and padlock?

It isn't that valuable monetary wise, however owning it for 41 years is priceless.

Wow hope they find this, but as already mentioned it's probably on it's way out of the country by now.

    Status Update
    By Calgary Police Service
    Stolen Classic Car - Recovered

Our Auto Theft Unit, with assistance from the RCMP Southern Alberta Auto Theft Unit, has recovered a classic car stolen from its longtime owner.

The 1962 Chevrolet Convertible Corvette was recovered from a DeWinton-area acreage this afternoon. It is currently being taken to the CPS forensics bay for further testing, but will be returned to its 73-year-old owner as soon as possible.

No charges have been laid in connection with the theft, however, the investigation is continuing.

Investigators received tips from the public that led them to the acreage and the stolen car.

Police would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance. Tips from the public were instrumental in being able to recover this rare vehicle.
