LED street lights make people sick.

Hah, there probably doctors who said something similar when cities and towns converted to the orange lighting back in the 70/80's.

People will complain about the color temp of a streetlight but will not think twice about staring at their TV/phone/tablet right before going to bed.

    Bumping this up.

I was reading the article about Jessica Meir tweeting a pic of Calgary from space and they posted a few photos of Calgary from various times in the past. Kinda interesting to see the transition from sodium vapour lamps to LED over time. I was surprised to see the south eastern part of the ring road hadn't been converted yet.

Yeah saw it last night. It's clear enough to spot my street, pretty cool.

Its funny cause the other night I had to drive down into McKenzie town and so many of the lights were still orange and it just looked so weird driving.

I remember driving eastbound Country Hills down the hills from Hamptons and thinking it was a power outage when the LED 1st went in.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind it if they decided to go with a more warm white (3500K). Or at least something in the middle.

Looking at that just reminds me that if they ever allow residential on top of Nose hill, the empty lots will probably go for millions.

BTW: As to what to do with the electricity now. My suggestion would be to put in an offer to host the "bigger" Amazon Web Services datacenters that will be trying to compete with Google Stadia.

Because of course: AI overlord wins all.

Ring road is owned/maintained by the province, CoC streetlight LED conversion project wouldn't have included that.

Also, did any of you notice the Lions Festival of Lights along 14th Street NW in this 2020 image. Our community's LED lit ODR is also viewable in this 2020 image as well.

As many times as I've look at Calgary on Google maps, I've never noticed that logistics park until now (angled strip on the right, north of Chesterslew).

Bright mutherfucker. That would make a good dragstrip.

It is becoming more common. The 4k was first rolled out but we're starting to look at 3 and sub 3k lights for certain situations.

the new lights on bow trail between 69th and 85th street are warmer than the LEDs on bow from sarcee to 69th.

Comparing the new (with old lights) and old (with LED lights) communities, it's clear that light pollution is greatly reduced.

You say shitty lights. I’ll one up you.

I was an early street for the LED’s. In July one of them started flickering. Full off full on rapidly around 20 times a second. All night long right outside my house.

Ask the city to fix it you say, well you do that and they will claim they have a contract with Enmax to repair lights. And that their service agreement means Enmax can wait as long as 30 days to fix the light. However when Enmax just doesn’t bother to fix said light, and you complain to the city they say it’s not their fault and close your 311 ticket because it’s Enmax’s responsibility.

Oh, and my wife has Epilepsy.

Continue for 6 months until the flickering light finally kills itself and leaves you with the blissfulness of darkness.

So, in my opinion, fuck the new LED’s.
