Ebola then spreads in the community through human-to-human transmission, with infection resulting from direct contact (through broken skin or mucous membranes) with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of infected people, and indirect contact with environments contaminated with such fluids.
Ebola won't ever be a big deal. Only.way a disease can truly be deadly is through air contamination imo.
The fatality rate is 57%

Oh, don't get me wrong. Ebola is dangerous as hell!Originally posted by GTS4tw

But in the first world, its a non-issue. For 3rd world countries it certainly is though.
It just isnt going to destroy humanity is what I am getting at. Its weakess is transmission.

Meh, a mindset like that can be the downfall for any type of situation though IMO. Just because it isn't an issue here, doesn't mean that it could never happen.Originally posted by HiTempguy1

All it takes is one slip up, which again, can be applied to anything really... You can tell I watch too many movies lolol.
They know how to deal with it with the proper equipment and facilities, which they have access to neither of.
Sars scares me more than this
Normally I'd agree with Hitemp, but yeah, if experts who one would think know more than enough about protective measures are contracting it, shit just got real.Originally posted by Sugarphreak
And yet people going there to help with it that think they are taking the proper precautions are catching it... what does that tell you?
Sheik Umar Khan is one of the top doctors for Ebola and it was announced he died today.
The tally also includes dozens of local health workers and the infection of two US medics now
It scares the hell out of me that people who probably know enough about the traditional virus to be safe are catching it themselves.
Very real.
Reminds me of the movie outbreak
"Efforts are ongoing to develop a vaccine..."
The cure sounds worse than the disease!
Only takes one to get through the fence...Originally posted by HiTempguy1

If that is truly how Ebola is spread, then HiTempGuy is right. They didn't take the proper precautions.Originally posted by HiTempguy1

They just need to drop a fuel air bomb on the contaminated zone to stop the spread and kill the outbreak. For the benefit of all humanity.
They also say they are seriously understaffed, spending way too long inside their hazmat/protective gear, and they are working in a third world country with most likely somewhat limited access to supplies. All of this can lead to mistakes.Originally posted by The_Penguin

Very real.
Having worked at the hospital before even just having to wear a disposable respirator/face mask or gown for half an hour when dealing with isolation patients is enough to make you want to die. All you want to do is rip that mask off your face and breath in fresh air...

Man I have been playing plague inc on my phone when bored. its only a matter of a couple years and all humans will be extinct.
but seriously, it's crazy how despite best efforts to contain a virus can succeed.
^^
Because people are fucking stupid.
In cases like this, governments should be taking all possible steps to contain this shit. That includes the retracting of human rights and shit like that.
Deny anyone entering your country if they have been to western Africa during this time. Throw them in containment for a week to see if they show symptoms. All it takes is one dumb fuck to get on a plane and head over here.

Quarantine the whole continent and let the virus run its course.

Is it known if the current Ebola virus has the same molecular structure as the original identified?
Not that this is a laughing matter, but that's funny because when I first heard about this outbreak I was thinking the same thing. Hopefully it doesn't have the air or water ability.Originally posted by wintonyk
