Rotors Turned in Calgary?

I need to get a set of rotors turned, but I called all the places I used to do that (Cdn Tire, Auto Value, PartSource) and no one does it any more?!

Where are people getting theirs turned?

And that is becoming standard practice at many shops as well.

I used to turn my rotors with a new set of pads till I read this from Wilwood.

A: Not if they are still serviceable. In fact, the best way to bed your new pads is with a rotor that has already been bedded. The rotor is basically the radiator for your brake system. The larger the rotor for any given design, the better it cools. Each time you turn a rotor, you remove material; therefore, you remove some of its ability to cool. You should regularly inspect your rotors for conditions such as cracks or excessive wear and immediately replace them if they are defective or out of tolerance. Obviously this is as long as the rotor is in good shape on the braking surface.

Then follow the bedding procedure they list on their site. Sometimes difficult to do in the city but it is possible.

auto value in midnapore just turned my rotors... not sure where your getting your info.
cetus automotive will also do it

I've had rotors turned before, but if they're in decent shape with no deep features or scoring, then you may as well just slap the new pads on....

They'll probably look the same anyways after a week of use lol

I have a pretty harsh vibration in a 2013 Odysssey a family member has. I assumed it was the rotors (either pad deposits or warping).

depends when the vibration is happening. when you're applying the brakes or just straight driving..high speed or low speed

are wheels balanced?

as per your original question, dealerships still turn rotors...

I believe its still cheaper than buying a new set of OEM rotors from the dealer, so its really up to you. aftermarket ones can be just as good, if not better, depending on what you're willing to spend.

On my 5 series BMW, my factory trained BMW mechanic (owns his own shop now) refused to turn the rotors as he said it is not done on BMWs. On my Honda, Hu's installed better than factory (quality and price) rotors rather than turning them as the price was about the same as the turning fee.

Previously I had rotors turned at the Honda dealer in the NW, after another 10,000 kms they were in need of replacement so turning was wasted money and I should have replaced them just like Hu's advised.

Exactly because of what I posted before from the Wilwood site. But then again, most people don't heat cycle their brakes during break in.

Yeah, if you're having vibrations during braking, try doing a brake bedding process. It might get rid of the vibrations (deposits left on rotors), if nothing else it should increase braking performance.

Any beyond recommended shops for turning rotors? I'm looking to have some two piece rotors turned as I'm changing brake pad compounds to something a little more aggressive and the pad supplier strongly recommended I do so before bedding the new pads.

I had that chinaman by the airport do mine, I think it's called McCall brake and muffler or something. They were large 2 piece performance rotors like yours, he did a great job and only charged me $40.
