The entire value of diamonds is pretty much fabricated anyway. As long as it looks fine, I sure as hell don't ever want to know if the gem is a fake.

you should be able to compare the markings on the GIA report to the ones in the diamond. Well, that might not work for everyone, but the one I bought has two small feathers. pretty easy to recognize.Originally posted by Sugarphreak
Most people get a 3rd party appraisal for insurance purposes... I don’t see it as being paranoid; with anything you are spending any kind of serious coin on, you'd probably want to authenticate it. More than enough people out there willing to sell you a fake.
It's never even crossed my mind you are dealing with major stores here not some
Basement Kijiji independent guy out of the hood lol

This.
Like A790 said, find someone you trust or have established a relationship with and the worry is gone.
There is literally no incentive for a legitimate business to 'switch' your diamond. Don't go to some fly by night operation and you have nothing to worry about.
Taking it to Troy Shoppe Jewellers next week. 48 hour turnaround and it doesn't leave the building
You realize you can pop a diamond out in 3 seconds, right?Originally posted by dirtsniffer

You also realize you can set a diamond in about 1 minute, right? Polish the head in about 47 seconds. Rhodium plate in about 10 seconds.
Within 48 hours, they can swap your diamond over 1,440 times.
Are you SURE you want to do this?
^ lol

When my wife got her ring resized we took it to CJ and they put it under a microscope and gave us a pad and paper so that we can sketch out any distinguishable flaws. When we picked it up we had to sign off and say it's the same stone. I think this is very smart not only protecting us by their reputation aswell.
I guess this only works if your ring isn't flawless
I'd have absolutely no hesitation to trust Justin about anything. Awesome guy to deal with.Originally posted by Justing

I don't understand why the more nervous people don't just get the diamond removed, hang on to the loose diamond, and have the band re-sized.

I had a great experience with Troy Shoppe, I would recommend them to anyone with jewelry repair needs.
I've dealt with Justin a couple times and it gave me the confidence to continue to do so in the future. I don't think it's fair that his name and diamond switching were mentioned in the same sentence by people with their own paranoia.
I agree, unfortunately we were not able to do business but he did earn future business through his communication skills and being upfront with me.
Yea I'm surprised Kasem went there.Originally posted by GTS Jeff

Thanks guys, such love! lol
Dirtsniffer, glad they were able to help. David over there is a good guy.
perhaps i shouldve rephrased.
I was by no means bashing justin, i did say that i heard good things about him.
Im just not a fan of leaving it for a week(im assuming he sends it out and not do it inhouse).
was moreso looking for someone that can have a quick turnaround that can do it on the spot.
By no means was i implying that justin's business would switch out a gem
Thanks Sorath.
Just for clarification, we do everything in house and the jewellery does not need to leave the store.
As I mentioned before, timing is generally based on a first come first serve basis. If there is something pressing that absolutely needs to be ready asap, we can accommodate that.
As others here can attest to, I give priority to customers who have purchased the piece from us so most of the time service is completed quicker.
