Is there a car out there with tons of hype that you were finally able to own/drive and ended up being completely disappointed?
Curious to see every ones thoughts.
As much as I love it, the e30 m3 is my choice for overhyped.

98 cobra with the 4V 4.6L engine. It felt absolutely gutless below ~4500 rpm. Clutch felt terrible even being used to a cable clutch. Seemed cheaply built for the price. It also had no character to the sound, although to be fair it was 100% stock. Gears and a full exhaust may have changed my mind.
GTR
For me, Focus ST (felt cheap, uncomfortable, and the ergonomics are strange) I was really hyped about this car, and heard so much about it. Couple friends that bought them have since got rid of them.
'01 Lexus IS300.
MK4 Supra's.
Fastest 12 second 1200whp cars ever
If you take anything I have to say seriously, you're gunna have a bad time.

Honda Civics... they are not race inspired NSXs, they are economy 4 cyl cars with cam phasers
I always wanted to take a Ferrari for a rip, had a chance to take a 360 around a track and was pretty disapointed by it. The F1 Transmission alone ruined it for me very unrefined, jerky and unpleasant. Killed the Ferrari dream although I'm sure a 458 would be light years better.
Pre-2011 Lexus IS-F
R35 GTR
MP4-12C
Any Corvette below the C6 Grand sport
GR STi
Evo X
Drove an '09 GTR on the track (Las Vegas) and was dissapointed with how heavy it felt. Hope the newer ones drive better, although they aren't any lighter really...

I do get great service there, especially when I mention my name, haha.
Are you including the original ZR-1 in that statement?Originally posted by Twin_Cam_Turbo

There have been many but some of mine are the same as already listed so I'll start with those:
E36 M3
IS300
Focus ST
RX-8
Miatas
Civic Si (2.0L)
Every Mustang I've ever been in
IS 250/350 (first gen)
Dodge Viper
Corvette (2009 Grand Sport)
Hyundai Genesis & Genesis Coupe
Porsche Boxter (early gen)
BMW Z3
Jaguar X-Type
"New" Ford Thunderbird
Chevy HHR
Plymouth Prowler
PT Cruiser
"New" Beetle
Smart Cars
Haha there are probably more, but that's all I can think of for now. I wasn't necessarily COMPLETELY disappointed with all of the above, but a lot of them were just 'meh' despite the press, reviews, or hype after having driven them myself. I really wanted to love some of them too, but couldn't.

Subaru's, to me they feel/look so dang cheap inside. From what I hear they're no all that problem free either.
What no Audis?Originally posted by Mitsu3000gt

Just for that, I'm going to say the CLK63 AMG (non Black Series) is my most disappointing overhyped drive. My expectations were way too high on the CLK63, the Black Series version was widely praised, you'd think that it's an incremental improvement. Nope. After I owned the Black Series version, I realized the gap is wider than the grand Canyon. It's like difference between a 300C SRT-8 and a Viper.

Mine was the AP2 S2000. The total lack of torque got tired pretty fast.
Honda s2000 - chick car that feels like it was put together with a screwdriver
Subaru WRX/STI - how people can drive that every day blows my mind. Clunky, cheap everything, loud, junk.
Subaru brz/scion frs - why? Yay, it handles well. That's where it starts and ends.
