I refuse to shop at Walmart.. but I did give Target a chance a few times. Not having a website with products and stock levels was a big negative, IMO. I went to one in December and they were sold out of just about everything I wanted to buy - the milk fridge alone looked like it was robbed

I blame shitty management. Prices were high and the employees just did what they were expected to do and nothing more. I had a friend work in one and if there were any decent specials, it was cleared out by the employees and the scraps left for customers. I'll probably visit them more now to look for any deals

They were sold out from day 1. Their supply chain management is what killed them.

How can you make money on overpriced goods when you have nothing in the store to sell?

Milks a problem in all stores in the NE haha. Still love this WA video with Surrey residents raiding the Costco.

CBC interviewed a backroom manager or something this morning, he mentioned that the backrooms were full of stock, but none of the employees took the time to restock shelves because they weren't told by management to do that. Baffling.

Apparently there were HUGE issues with bar codes and SCM control. Essentially came down to the fact that the SCM company had very little knowledge of what was where and they ended up with full warehouses of material.

While Target acknowledged this issue last year, looks like the fixes would cost too much or come too slowly for the shareholders' liking.

Too bad, I just went into a Target this week. It was a ghost town. As someone who hates people I thought it was awesome going there.

    FU

Its the multicultural mecca of Calgary.

I usually go the new Walmart on 17th and Stony now though.

Not surprised at all by Target closing, stores were awful. Walmart in Canada is much better and not crap holes like their US counterparts.

Theres a stigma associated with walmarts in the US as redneck hell holes.

It has a whole meme "shit you see at walmart" going on.

Sure their stores have great selection of guns, booze, etc but the ones in Canada don't carry that stigma.

Clearly you haven't spent that much time in Canadian Walmart.

    No kidding.

I did a bunch of my Christmas shopping at Marlborough Walmart. Holy Shit that was an eye opener. Straight out of those Walmart gag reels, just less guns and booze (on the shelf, everyone else was probably packin')

Yup, like I said, shitty management. It's a pretty simple concept, stock isn't going to move if it's not on the shelves being sold. They should of called The Profit, Marcus Lemonis to get their shit together.

I still believe that the main reason Target failed was their extremely unplanned deployment in Canada.

At that the time they started converting old Zellers locations we ran into so many problems with electrical supply. Company I contracted with was installing & commissioning backup generators for all the sites in Alta/BC/Sask. The US employees of Target ordered the wrong generators to ALL the sites, wrong phases, wrong transfer switches, wrong voltages. Also half of the generators were not up to CSA requirements, especially when it came to bifuel storage & Nat Gas installations.

Target ended up eating more than 10x the cost of getting their sites commissioned because their US employees did the purchasing for the Canadian sites. They sure acted like they had endless money to throw at their mistakes, not surprised to see they failed so quickly
