The solution, as always, is don't go to the NE

    Stanley Intellisensor PRO Stud Finder.

This is the shit pieceingest chunk of fuck stud finder I've ever used. I could build a better one out of a fist full of pubes and a magnet that a human female would have more success finding studs with than this tool.

Just look at it in action!

Yep, just as I suspected. Zero studs and the entire cavity behind the drywall is composed of LiVe electrical WiReS and the drywall is mounted to... Those live wires?
The entire fucking wall is electricity. All of it. Everywhere.

I vaguely recall this thing marginally functioning in a shed at some point in history, but now this thing can't find a stud that you already know is there, while falsely locating phantom studs that aren't there, all while constantly squealing that there is electricity somewhere within 1 square-km of where you might drill.
    Eat my ass.
These shitty fucking stud finders drive me up the wall! Or through it... many times.

Chucked them all and got one of these:

Its boss. Haven't missed a stud since .

I figured out the issue, or the majority of it. This turns out to be a 2x4 wall full of spray foam and the stud finder really struggles to sense the density differences when the wall is full of closed-cell foam.
It's still a wretched pile of shit, but, reasons.
