Yes if the posted fixed rate is lower. Which it isn’t.

It lets you react to it sooner though, if you are on variable for over 30 days you can hit a fixed right right away, if you are in fixed you have to switch to variable for 30 days before you can hit another fixed rate.

I think if you just renewed fixed, you probably should go variable as the risk reward is good that it will be lower.

If you're $4.09, it's iffy. What if fixed is not lower than $5.99 come winter? You went on variable where you use little gas and just to go back on fixed at a higher rate or stay on variable into the winter? Heh.

Betting that winter AECO will be lower than 3.09 ( once you include the $1/GJ fee for riding variable ) is currently an out of the money bet. Currently printing an average of 3.39 for this winter.

You will probably be in the money over the summer (when you are going to use next to no gas a month ), but likely in for some pain in the winter.

The only hope is that enmax finds some reason to drop their fixed below $4.09 between now and sept/oct. maybe that will happen, but it probably won’t.

Anyone gotten a Solar quote for their homes? Apparently the gov is subsidizing 5k on home solar. Not sure if its really worth it at this point

Yeah $4.09 is pretty low. I think I might keep it fixed just so I don't kick myself in November.

I just got my solar quote through Zeno. It's a $5K government grant (approx 3-4 months after you finish the install) and then you can get up to $40K as an interest free loan from the government with a 10 year payback period. Loan is paid to you approx 1 month after install so you basically front all the costs then get reimbursed. The presentation made sense to me and will probably do it here within the next 12 months.

There's also the forthcoming CEIP program from the city where you can roll the solar costs into your property taxes. Saves some upfront costs and if you sell the house before the "loan" is paid off, you can just pass the costs onto the new homebuyer. Also helps from a cash flow perspective too.

No way would I be wanting to take on someone else's poor economic decision. They can take the panels with them and/or payout that loan.

Federal program is interest free loan, no reason to use the CEIP program unless you can’t front the money for the construction period I guess. I wonder if you can do it through CEIP then also apply federally and wipe the CEIP payments out
