Got my first bill with floating electricity. There's no extra fee for the electricity rate cap repayment that the RRO customers do have to pay; since a few people asked a while back.

Sucks my 6 cent rate expired but 7 cents is still way better than the 10-11 cent fixed was offered. Though in the grand scheme of all the fees it's only a few bucks anyways.

kVa? Is this for your business?

The wholesale / pool prices were indeed at 4 cents / kWh so maybe that's what you're getting instead being a business account. Retail floating rates tend to be an average of I think 6(?) months so they're slower to fall. Whenever the January cold snap falls off they'll dip a bunch.

7.6 cents floating VS 10.49 cents fixed.

    What the consensus?

Atco is offering friends and family 3 year rate
    10.49c and 3.69
Comes with a Rumi appliance protection plan. Free for first year then $30/mo, but you can cancel at month 11 or 12 w/ 30 days notice and not owe anything.

Floating power is my opinion. Rates have fallen a lot and the pool price is in the 3-4 cent range so floating should be able to continue falling to <6 cents by Sept. There's also a lot of supply coming online with Cascade 1/2 is finally pushing full output but not 24/7 yet, but soon. Genesee #2 will be back online and coal free in the next couple weeks. So all indications electricity will continue to fall.

    Float! Float! Float!

Even if you are 9.29, I think it's worth the switch.

Exactly what I was locked in at, but I switched to floating a little while back.

I like predictability so I stay on fixed and considering 90% of the bill is fees the 3 cent difference won't make that big of a difference.

Prices should be even lower. I think I predicted this would happen more and more, but I won’t dig up that post.

Today is kind of an exciting day, Alberta’s electricity grid is officially coal free. Genesee shutdown its coal portion for good as of last night.

I was wondering why it was so chilly this morning. Now it's obvious. We are so incredibly special and we have such a tremendous impact.
