After checking their site now I get DE ads too which are idiotic. "Get it and forget it". I'm sure they very much would love you to forget about it after it expires and goes up.
Direct Energy is scummy? Say it ain’t so!

Based on the MW numbers I've been seeing they haven't gotten the ST online as of yet. It could likely have to do with steam blows, until the OEM is happy with the steam quality it could take awhile to get all the crap out of the system. Unfortunately they aren't set up with a large water source and water treatment plant that can feed steam blows for long periods of time. So most water is getting trucked in to make up.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
That would make a lot of sense, they seem to be getting close to the 250-300MW range but never over. Meanwhile Genesee repower 1 started up like a week ago and is already straight for 400MW tonight; but that’s only the gas until the fall. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Wife sent me a promotion that Direct Energy has for $0.0777/kWh, we're at $0.0929 with Enmax.
Any differences really between these two in terms of reliability?
Edit: NVM, it's just a 3 month promo and then goes up to $0.1059.

Classic Direct Energy. Still a decent fallback rate compared to everyone else currently.
I can eat more hot wings than you.
Last couple months floating electricity has been cheaper than fixed if you had to renew to the new 11.49 cent plans. Looks to also continue decreasing this summer so worth considering if you aren't still on an older cheaper plan riding it out.
Edit: Though I guess with the extra couple cent fee from repaying the fixed rates it ends up being more? Enmax shows 10.6 cents for floating atm

Fortunately in Alberta we don’t (barely) pay for gas and power consumption. We pay for the privilege of having power and gas available plus carbon tax. Does the rate I renew at even matter anymore? My ~$250 monthly bill for both combined includes the $50 I actually used.
Quite true, but let's say the average house uses about as much electricty as me, which is ~680 kwh/mo = 8160 kwh/yr. So every 1c change in your rate costs you eighty bucks Saving five cents on your rate is $400/yr.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
so it adds up enough to care.

Well my 6 cent/kWh rate expired. Switched to floating on both electricity and gas now ... feels bad.
Sigh I miss that 5.89 goodness lol locked in at 12.29 but might have to switch here to floatingThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Enmax's May floating rate is 7.1 cents. Looks like floating was the right play so far, hopefully it means things will stay lower for the summer and drag the new fixed rate options downwards.
Well natural gas is currently worth less than air, so long as we don’t have any brown outs form heat should be a cheap summer to float.

Turns out my fixed .0659 rate for electricity with Enmax is good till March next year.
Definitely riding that one out to see if the new rates get better around renewal time.

Whatever day you switch is when it takes effect give or take. When that day on your bill shows up (sometimes bills are a month behind) you'll see a split where the first part of your bill is the old rate then the days after that is the new rate. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. My gas for example when I switched around Feb 8th:
And yeah if you decide to switch back to fixed you would receive whatever the fixed rate is at that point in time. If you're on 12.29c you should definitely update your plan because even the new fixed they offer today is 11.49c. So renewing your fixed or switching to floating are both cheaper than what you have now.Energy Charge .............................................3.876 GJ @ $ 4.090000 / GJ ...............$ 15.85 *(Jan 29 to Feb 8)
