Look back at floating rates on here.. fixed is the answerThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Sort of looks like electricity rates are heading in the right direction again. After rising from 10 cents in May 2022 up to 30 cents in Aug 2023 they've now fallen down to 17 cents over the last two months (+2 cents for the UCP price cap repayment). Here's hoping we can get back to sub 10 cent rates next year when the cheap plans expire.
That would be excellent. I've got less than a year left on my 5.9c fixed rate, would love to lock in sub-10c again. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
In 12 months power will be cheap again. There is a lot of thermal power coming online

Don’t forget to include Suncor’s massive new base plant cogen. It’s going to add 800MW to the grid by next year. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Including Kineticor, that’s 1700MW.

Hi Peeps,
Read the last few pages here, but just wanted some quick assistance. Currently with ATCO on a locked in rate for another year. I need to get electricity to my acreage. Rates at all time high, so don't really want to commit long term to something I am locked into, so trying to see what my best bet is. For now it would just be electricity.
I had a chat with ATCO and seems like with them, even if you commit to 3 years, you can basically walk away, or call in and get it changed to lower plan later. Is that generally a correct summary of this? Would ATCO be the way to go, or should I look at some other options, like Enmax, or some other retailer. Have been out of the game for a while, hoping to gain knowledge from rest of you more informed folks.
I don't get why they are called "contracts." You lock in a rate and can walk away at anytime. What's in it for them?
The only thing I can think of is that they are counting on people "setting and forgetting" it and making money when the rates are lower than the lock in.

If you're on an acreage, you're like outside of the city limits. Enmax only services within the city limits. And yeah, on the topic of "contracts," I know Enmax gives you an out from multi-year contracts, so long as you give them 30-days notice with no penalties. Probably similar with the others too. No idea what the purpose of the contract is then.

Well at the end of the contract you're back on the floating rate.
That’s not necessarily true. I know people who live outside the city with Enmax power service. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Yeah I mean I have Enmax and live in Strathmore.
I was reviewing my bill this past month and I noticed I am paying over $20 in admin charges - has anyone successfully challenged that with ENMAX?
What’s to challenge? They have a monopoly.
