Mercedes-Benz Bids Farewell to GL, ML, GLK and SLK

A couple of years ago, Infiniti announced they were changing their model nomenclature and now Mercedes-Benz is doing a rejigging of its own. Gone are the GL, ML, GLK and SLK model names. They will now be known as GLS, GLE, GLC and SLC respectively. Similar to Infiniti’s naming scheme, all SUVs and Crossovers will now have the GL prefix, with the original G retaining its single letter model name.

Smart to keep it consistent and not many changes compared to others. Infiniti's was super dumb though as Nysschen just goes to companies to screw up their naming, Volvo was OK, but Infiniti and now Cadillac are all messed up.

As for Merc, it totally make sense but may be risky in changing the popular ML to GLE.

I like how Mercedes has aligned their models. Infiniti fucked up their model names. BMW already has their offroad vehicles all Xs to begin with, so they're good.

I can agree with the change of ML to GLE though. That might be a risk. I wonder why they don't want the K any more? I think GLK sounds better than GLC.
