Default Cheap 12V transformer - In town?

Looking to do a little project with some leftover 12V halogen pucks lights. Need a 110V-12V transformer, minimum 75W.
This is a pretty simple item, but seems like they are pretty expensive from a lot of places. For example, Lee Valley's largest is 60W, and it's $46
I'd like this right away, so ideally somewhere in Calgary I could pick it up at.

Found some on Ebay out of the USA for under $20 including shipping, which seems like a good deal.

Use a computer power supply, I have one running a 250 watt amp and paid like 80 bucks for it , yellow wires are all 12v cut the rest put all the yellow into a connector and you have 12v

you also have to ground the green to fool the PSu in to thinking it's hooked to a PC

It's not the size that matters, it's the taste it leaves in your mouth.

Computer supplies have a minimum load before they will function and it is usually a large chunk of their maximum rating. It's worth a try if you have an old PC laying around but don't be surprised if it doesn't work.

Every Pc power supply have modded (about 40) have worked no problem, with zero load, other than a grounded green. (and internal fan)

More expensive and more hassle, but more wattage. Would be a good option if I had one laying around, or if I had higher power requirements.

Admittedly, I haven't tried one for many years but I also used many of these power supplies back in the day. The older voltage pumps were highly load dependent.

Amre was super easy to deal with. Also, pretty cool store, but for all you fans, NOTE they are moving.

Just to settle this debate it will function with no load or minimal load however the efficiency will drop madly. Which COULD cause it to fail due to increased stress.

Beside if its a leftover psu who cares if you blow the crummy 300 watt unit.

Here is an efficiency chart of a SeaSonic 1000:

I have a 200w one that's been running in my garage for 2 years that only powers a string of leds on rare occasions and a low wattage temp sensor..
