    Default RB26DETT Timing Belt Snapped

Hey guys, my buddy just traded his 240sx for a Skyline GTST (i am not 100% sure if its a GTST) with a RB26 in it. The previous owner said when the timing belt snapped it just stalled, it turns over but won't fire he also said. Anyone have any ideas what it may be? I personally was going to pull the plugs and look into the cylinder for any damage and if there was non to all 6 then i was going to hook everything up to problem solve... If anyone has any ideas or suggestions feel free to comment or PM me, really open to ideas as it sits!

    Thanks
    Brayden

Did you physically look to see if the timing belt was broken? If it is a buddy turned over the engine, it's an interference engine.

Head rebuild at the very least, possible piston/cylinder/turbo damage as well.

If the timing belt snaps there's a good chance there is significant damage to the engine.

If you take anything I have to say seriously, you're gunna have a bad time.

Verify the timing belt is broken by physically seeing it's broken. Going by what someone has said via their eMechanic skills doesn't always pay off.

    All RBs are interference engine.

If your lucky only 2 valves got munched.

Thanks guys!! I will ask for visual proof of the snapped timing belt! We have a spare head for the RB already just wanted to do as little work as possible (more money spent on upgrades instead of fixes) being you start one thing then you find another problem that has to be addressed... Like i said thanks! i appreciate the quick replies!

Doesn't take a genius but make sure the pistons are free of cracks/damage and con rods are not bent. Once the head is off you can turn the crank and visually check to see if all pistons come up to the same level, just a quick check of course, best to inspect them still.

Just been working with a 26 head for the last few weeks and I would be surprised if no valves are bent.

Sucks when such a thing happens on an interference motor. I had the exact same problem with first civic and I got all the same information from everyone. When a timing belt snaps on an interference motor, you're ALMOST completely out of luck.

Someone high up was looking out for me when my timing belt snapped......I had a small nick on a single valve and that was it!

Check out my entire thread for details.

But beware that Economy's quotes may have no bearing on reality. I once brought them a pair of heads for repairing, they inspected them on the magnaflux and told me it would be $300-$350 to fix the both of them. When I picked them up they handed me a bill for $650 - lesson learned about trusting their quotes nowadays. We used to take heads there all the time but lately they've gone to shit.

If he kept trying to start it after the belt snapped, you're gonna have a bad time.

I have an RB block in my garage that had the belt snap and one piston is completely gone after it made contact with the valves and broke them off and munched on them. Quite the surprise when we took the head off and it was just gone.
