Default Calgary - Flood Prevention Updates?

It's been awhile since the flood and was wondering if anyone had any updated information on what the city has done or is planning to do to prevent future floods?

    Thanks

What's actually been "done" is a lot of talk. Virtually zero infrastrucure changes have been made, and as far as I know, very few have even been approved or scheduled.

Step 1: turn sunnyside into a flood zone
Step 2: force occupants out, decrease druh's voting base
    Step 3: ???
    Step 4: profit

Also, to clarify, the city isn't really in charge here, it's going to be the province.

That springbank proposal is total madness.

I think we should divert all flood waters into the city's new bike lanes. That should cover the next 1/1000 year flood.

That springbank plan was insane. We're supposed to flood crown land in areas that are lightly used, not some of the most expensive real estate in Alberta.

What's interesting now is that people are very worried about droughts this year. Dams can be operated for flood mitigation or for drought relief, not not both at the same time. We may be making a possible drought worse.

There has been construction along the Bows banks nonstop since the last flood. Putting down stone and reinforcing the banks. Graves Bridge along Glenmore has been under construction for almost a year putting in that massive pipe to carry storm water so I don't think nothing has been done.

Work to repair damage has been ongoing. I stand by my statement regarding mitigation projects for future flooding.

It's more than repair work, they are reinforcing the bank so it won't erode away with high fast water.

until there is a shovel in the ground, nothing has happened. Talk is meaningless and won't stop flood waters. TBH I'm rather shocked because after such a massive disaster I assumed this stuff would be pushed through under some sort of state of emergency powers act to avoid a future catastrophe. You know, hire a shitload of scientists, politicians, environmentalists and tell them they can't leave the room until a plan is finalized and approved. After a few months of work something should have begun. It's been 2 years now and zero. I guess after the next flood we can talk some more because that's what we're good at doing, talking.

In which case the bike lanes would become, objectively, the single greatest cost-benefit infrastructure project the city has ever produced.

    Thanks Nenshi. Thanks indeed.
