Default BMW Built in Defa Plug

My boss' bmw has a built in defa plug in the front bumper. The dealership doesn't know what it's for. Is it just for charging the battery? Defa seems to have a few different purposes for that plug on the website.

My salesman told me it is a charger exclusively. BMW's don't have any heating method built in. No block heater option, this is just a battery charger.

Sounds like he is wrong. Says right on the link it includes two things

    1. engine heater
    2. on-board battery charger.

When I bought my car this was pretty it and dry.

They maintain that due their their engine designs and synthetic oil usage with a strong battery they will start regardless of the cold. If you are concerned they offer the charger which will ensure your battery is well charged.

However I think on M cars they aren't available as they sit in a spot occupied by the grill for part of the plug system on MPPK or M Performance cars. Which is why i didn't have one installed.

Block heaters aren't the only way to heat an engine. DEFA also sells inline coolant heaters.

So the battery charger is for all models and the coolant heater and circulation pump are only equipped on a few models
