Default Listening to USB music on old-style stereo?

So I have one of those late 90s/early 00s style stereos with the big speakers and all, and still use it quite often. The selling point was the fact it could play MP3 files, so back in the day I ended up burning a bunch of MP3 CDs.

Nowadays most of my music is on a USB stick, which I use to listen to music in my car.

What would be the simplest/easiest way to make the stereo play the MP3s off the USB? A converter/adapter that hooks up to the AUX port? One of those "fake" cassettes that connect to other devices? Any other ideas?

    Thanks.

My bad didn't read the OP question thoroughly, simple answer no and it wouldn't be worth the time if you could.

Bluetooth speaker and retired your old stereo?

And why isn't your music on a phone but a USB stick?

Dont use the cassettes or FM "input", the AUX port is the best. I would get a USB/MP3 player that acts as a storage device when you need in the car, and a player when you stick a stereo headphone cable into it. The Chinese sell billions of these devices.

    Eg:

If you really want to do this then get a inexpensive mp3 player and use a rca -> 3.5mm cable then hook it to your amp in the aux or tape input.

    Thanks for the suggestions all.

I like the idea of using the AUX, rather than cassette or radio. The AUX input on the stereo has a red and a white line, so I think I need a 3.5mm -> RCA red/white AUX cable. The 3.5mm side could then be plugged into a USB/MP3 player such as revelations linked, and the red/white line to the AUX on the stereo.

Oh, and to answer Xtrema's question, I'm still using an old-school flip phone (yes I know), so can't store music on that thing.

Also, for those interested, here's the stereo in question

PS.. If your flip phone is using the CDMA network it won't work for much longer :P

Damn you for that link, got me a looking up a couple of my old radios and wanting to get them working...

1940 Canadian Marconi model 215 (link - needs internal work and batteries, AM and shortwave)...

1947 Phonole model 1B51-P (link - just needs batteries, AM only)...

can't believe all the ridiculous suggestions in this thread

your best option for that stereo is to simply use your phone or iPod with this (which you can get at your local dollar store):

Did you read the original question?

OP has USB STICK with music.
This USB STICK is used in OPs vehicle. He would like to keep the setup about the same.

An IPOD would mean a big change in the OPs car setup, even though it might work fine at his house with the cable.

His phone is a old school flip.

Don't have anything to say really, except for sick stereo! I had the same one back in the 2000's. Miss that thing

Thanks, the thing still works great! Bought it over ten years ago at Futureshop from a friend (who I believe is a member here on beyond).

Relevation's idea is probably the lowest cost. But trying to find one that has enough storage or take a 32GB SD card may be tough.

5$ shipped to your door - might as well buy 2-3 as they dont last more than a year (at least from my use).

I'd be careful with those. They're probably 2gb's spoofed to be 32's.
I've fallen into that trap before.

Bring your own SD card. That model doesn't include storage. I guess I wasn't searching long enough as other I saw was 16GB which I thought was pretty odd spot to stop supporting as SD limit is 2GB and SDHC limit is 32GB.
