Default Speeding Tickets / GDL / Demerits Question

I'll preface this with saying that I really am an idiot for speeding so much lately...no excuses but definitely bad luck was bound to catch up to me.

27 year old male. GDL license still (I just never bothered writing the exit test). Have 4 demerits on file for 2 speeding tickets (1 in sept 2013, and the other in sept 2014).

On sunday I got a speeding ticket heading to Lake Louise just past banff for going 27 over (3 demerits I Believe?)

And I just got one this morning on 17th ave, 65 in a 50 (2 or possibly 3 demerits).

Court date for the banff one is in Mid April, and the date for the one I got today is in just over a month.

Clearly I'm pretty fcked as 8 demerits and you get your GDL suspended.

I'll say that this was a wake up call to slow the fuck down. But I'm wondering if I can go get my full license before my court dates, and also possibly take a defensive driving course to reduce my demerits, so as to avoid getting my license suspended? Would they prevent me from taking my full license road exam if I have tickets pending?

If suspension occurs at 8 demerits, then just go do the defensive driving course and knock off 3 before the court date.

You should be eligible to take the GDL exit test. If you have had the license for 2 continuous years and no suspensions, you're good to go. You can also ask the registry where you plan to take the test if you're fine.

The demerits don't get applied until you are convicted. So you could get over 8 demerits in tickets but it won't matter until after the court date. If you want to extend some time, you can try to extend the court dates as well. You can do it once (provide a reason), and if you want to do it again, you'll have to go see a judge and explain why you want to extend it a 2nd time (has to be a pretty good reason usually).

You can get your full license even with the tickets, but if you get suspended, you won't be able to for 12 months. You have a small window of time, so I suggest you get your full license ASAP and try to at least get your speeding tickets reduced in court. That and hope the cop doesn't show up haha.

Play the game well and you will come out ahead.

Agree with what he said. 8/15 is pretty bad from an insurance standpoint. I'd work on hiring POINTTS to get those lowered.

Can POINTTS rep you in Banff?

    1) Slow down

    2) Slow down

    3) If you get your GDL prior to paying or being convicted in court you can avoid a license suspension due to demerits. However depending on where you go your test some are booked a few weeks or more in advanced so be aware you can't do it last minute. Also incase you fail it

    4) Do a defensive driving course to knock off 2-3 demerits (some are different apparently) but also to learn safer driving techniques. Really everyone should do a driving course every few years as a reminder/wake up call (yes even all you pro-wanna-be race car drivers on here)

Watch the judge see what you are trying to do and hand you the suspension anyways

obviousally i dont want to see bad drivers on the road, thats why the demerit system is in place. Im only posting this because you actually admit you did wrong and are not making excuses.

Plead not guilty to both the tickets, your trial date will be literally months down the road.

Go do your exit test asap

    Take your defensive driving course.

    This will save your licence

Do your road test now. Don't wait, just get it done. Most offices are booking within the next couple days.

if you get pulled over for speeding with one of those stuck on your windshield, officer wont be very impressed.

I thought a good radar detector and a laser diffuser are both around $500 anyways. I have always figured diffuser first and detector after. I need a go fast car first

I think you will find you speed a lot less now that you've got to this point. I was in a similar situation a couple years ago (6 demerits but no pending tickets) so I took my advanced and just realized speeding isn't worth it since and haven't had any problems.

I think there is a definitive difference in speeding and speeding. Many people say they don't speed but will constantly be 5-10 over the actual posted limit.

I think there is a massive difference if your in a 50 zone doing 55 or 60 if your in a zone like a park and you are exceeding 5-10 over or your on the highway and its posted 110 and your doing 130 that is excessive.
