    Default Radar Detector Mount

I have a ZX6R and I would like to utilize my Escort Passport 9500ix. Anyone else have this or a similar type of radar detector mounted? What sort of Mount did you use? I Googled and found a couple different solutions but I wanted to ask locally what people use because some seem obstructive.

I cant add much in regards to mount type but i rode with a guy who had one hooked up and he had an earbud hooked up to it so he could hear the warning.
Without that i would say its pretty much useless if you're going off the lights and the chirp from the radar detector.

FYI its supposedly against the law to chase past 220kmshr.

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

I don't use one myself, but everyone who does seems to love the Ram Mounts connected to the triple tree. Might be worth looking into.

Thanks. I'm going to use the escort live wire with the blue tooth that links to my phone. I have this in my other vehicles. It gives me audible alerts though there, which in turn reach my blue tooth earpiece for the phone. Which means I also need a phone mount haha.

I don't usually hoon too much in the cars it's just nice to have. This is my first bike in a long time. Definitely faster than a police car, not faster than a police radio though.

Ghetto-rigged tank mount bracket, hardwire kit, three-to-one audio combiner cable for fuzzbuster, scanner and tunes. It's fun listening to the RCMP, truckers, park rangers and highway workers talk about you, then play hide and seek with the police in the mountains.

Tunerworks sells a semi bug single suction cup mount for windshields.
    It is very solid

Why would you need to be in the USA to buy a scanner? Might be moot anyway, depending on where/how you're planning to use it, as much of RCMP has gone digital encrypted. Check radioreference.com forums

Years ago when I was looking into a trunking radio you needed a special liscene here to buy one but didn't in the states or something to that effect. It's the type that let's you listen in to the digital cps channels.

It's been a few years since I looked into it in any case.

That's a myth, there's no set limit to chase.

They do, however, have a department regulation that says they cannot pursue someone if there is a danger to the public because of it. Generally that means if the speeds are excessive, they will call off the car chase, get the helo in the air, and set out spike strips etc up ahead.

Twenty years ago, running was probably not nearly as hard to do. Now, with helicopters, and the expanded capabilities police departments have in big cities, it's a bad idea to run (generally) from the cops. You'll likely get caught, and when you do, it's beat down time.

Plus, with dash cams, it's not hard for them to find out your license plate number.... I wouldn't risk it, ever, myself.

Having said that, if the cop is going the other way, you're speeding, and you notice that his brake lights go on when he goes by, there's nothing in the law that says you can't take the next immediate turn, then a few more. If it isn't clear he's pulling you over (i.e. flashing lights and behind you) then you're not being pulled over (yet), so you can keep going on your merry way until he does so. If your merry way involves a lot of turns and parking in a back alley, I guess that's where your destination is. Just know that you CAN be charged for crimes that you didn't commit (we are in Canada, remember). He CAN charge you with evading arrest, or fleeing, or whatever they call it now, and you WILL likely go to court over it. If you win, great, but until then, they can make your life hell.

Is it worth the risk? Up to you... and I guess it depends on how likely you are to be followed. If it's a divided highway and you've got a few km, then maybe taking a couple of turns off the highway isn't such a bad idea. But speeding up and purposely trying to get away, probably not the best idea.

Just to make it clear - I'm not condoning running or evading... I'm only saying that it's not illegal to turn off the road unless a cop is right behind you and has his flashing lights on.

You are why motorcycle riders have a bad name.

Riders like you drive me crazy.... people look at a resopnsible rider with distain and disgust because they've seen so many other foolish riders pulling stunts in traffic, or blasting by traffic at 2x the speed limit or more, or hear about a biker running from the cops.

    I hope you get caught.

And no I'm not an ass... I ride, and I don't ride the speed limit, and yes I own a radar detector. But pissing off truckers, park rangers, workers, and the cops, and then getting a giggle because they're talking about how dangerous and stupid you are.... yea that's real fun.

And no, trunking radio won't let you listen in to CPS signals.

To the best of my knowledge, they are digital, and encrypted. Maybe I'm wrong on the encryption, but I doubt it. It wouldn't be hard to find out if they are encrypted. And there's not a huge benefit to going digital if you aren't going to encrypt (well, there are benefits, but for a police force, the main reason is encryption).

But no, you only need to get a license if you want to buy a radio that TRANSMITS, and only then on certain frequencies and/or above certain power levels. It's regulated nationally... you need an Amateur radio license, but even that only allows certain frequencies. You won't ever (legally) buy a radio that will transmit on police frequencies, not anymore. And certainly not with digital transmission.

Curiously, I wasn't doing any of those things. The truckers were thoroughly entertained once they discovered I could hear them on LADD and gave me updates on the road ahead. Where the highway worker phoned it in, I was going below the speed limit because of a crosswalk, likely just looked fast when I bent her into the curve after that. Shortly after that, F&W dispatch put out an update about some sheep on the highway and mentioned the motorbike too. As for taking a scenic detour through a town where I lived for a couple summers while the RCMP came back from some nearby calls, it was certainly more relaxing than getting tailed by a cruiser.

    You shouldn't speed, bro.
