Default Let the ridiculousness begin! Northern India

Good Day everyone - Let the ridiculousness begin!

Some of you may remember my wife and I driving our old sidecar from Calgary to Argentina and then from Africa and on to the UK last time.

Since returning from our five continent Ural trip, we have been looking forward to the next one.

Link to the last trip: http://www.smilesandmiles.com

    The next trip is booked!

    Have a look:

We will be driving a Tuk-Tuk from the border of Bangladesh/Bhutan across Northern India to the Pakistan border.

Stay tuned for updates, should be epic!

Bridged the Darien gap by renting a sailboat and winching the bike onto the deck - still have the bike.

Christian - you can subscribe to our website to get the updates, my wife is adding a bunch from the last couple of Russia trips shortly (we are a bunch behind.....)

Rage - Leaving end of March, starts in Jaisalmer and goes to Shillong - not anywhere near your old stomping grounds in Bangalore.

I expect it to break down twice a day at least...........

I did the Rickshaw Run in 2011, the first ever SE asia event. Krabi to Jakarta via Malaysia and Sumatra. We were one of 3 (of 25 total) teams to cross the finish line under our own power.

Also, as far as I know our two person team has raised the most money for charity of any Rickshaw Run team in history, which was a nice part of the experience.

I will say that I had a great time on the trip, but almost died on a few too many occasions. "really fucking dangerous" is an understatement, and I race motorcycles for fun.. We were run off the road multiple times a day, the truck drivers there do not give a single fuck. I'm pretty surprised nobody has been killed in an Adventurists event yet.

Coupled with the annoying lack of organization by the Adventurists, and the fact that they turned a blind eye to the 4-5 teams full of racist/drunk/redneck Australians who didn't give a shit about local culture or customs or manners, I probably wouldn't do a race with that organization again. I'd rather just plan and execute my own trips. But it sure was an experience when we were on our own without another team around for perhaps hundreds of miles (which was 95% of the time).

Sounds about right adamc. We are treating the event as a rental agency. My expectations are exactly what they state -none!

Had you been to india before?

We have previously done overland delhi to jaipur, back to varanasi and then kathmandu before returning to delhi.

I race cars and bikes, I enjoying driving it that neck of the woods.

How much did you raise? Last year a team raised over 200k Usd.

We explored the past teams and it definitely seemed to be filled with a large portion of party animals - not what we are looking for but since the event has no nightly stops as a group, we expect to not be anywhere near the crowd.

Drop me a line, lets have a beer.

    I agree with your assessment!

Fantastic! I've always wanted to do that event and happy to see that you and adamc actually made it happen. I'm sure there will be some tough times but I hope you enjoy it overall.

Yea, but if you're going to be anywhere near Delhi or Agra, and the timing is right for my BLR trip, I could swing a detour for a cameo appearance on your coverage haha.

Internet has been nonexistent for most of the trip. Long story short. We made it!

82 teams left the start, we are the first at the other end. Lots of stories to follow!

    Check it out

Sooner or later we will get some good connectivity and get some pics up
