Default Has your company / office laid people off?

Figured I'd post this up and see. There's been lots of news about the bigger companies announcing hundreds / thousands of layoffs but I'm more curious how many are being hit / have already been hit here in Calgary. Both large and small companies.

So, my question is, has your company already laid off people and/or do you expect more layoffs in the next few months?

Voted for no. Don't expect any either.

Voted No and not expecting. We don't run heavy in my division and not familiar with the other divisions.

There's no option for laid off a lot of contractors but haven't heard of any employee layoffs, so I voted no, and don't expect to (for employees).

No, which is surprising. We brought on quite a few people to handle various upcoming/anticipated projects which have now either been cancelled or delayed, however we are still retaining all of them.

No for the company I'm seconded to (E&P in construction phase), we don't expect any. But are under a hiring freeze.

As for my primary employer (EPCM), I think there have been a few, but not any significant number.

Voted: No, no one has been laid off yet and likely will not be any layoffs.

So right now 80% of responses are saying no layoffs. Nothing to worry about here. Calgary will be just fine.

Is this more for oil/gas related careers?

Voted no and no layoffs planned. The gas prices hasn't really affected my area of profession. People are still buying Mercedes-Benz like there's no tomorrow. And still servicing and buying Parts. Business is great, our new dealership is set to finish/open in April.

No and don't expect any in the Calgary office, but there were a few layoffs in the East. But we're in consulting/professional services.

No and no, my work has absolutely zero to do with O&G.

In fact my workplace has less employees now than it did before the 2002 "boom".

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

Yes as well and there will be more. Friend got laid off last week from a very large VAR. Most VAR's are having a hard time now because O&G companies are pausing all their projects.

We are "restructuring" right now...so several people have been laid off and a few shops have been closed down/merged. O&G.

Should have broken the No and No group into in O&G and not in O&G.

I kinda wanted an overall sense because if I put O&G as a seperate category it gets skewed regardless. It is just O&G producers? What about service companies that only do O&G (wireline) or mod yards and sales that only do work for O&G.
