Default LF: Suggestions on wedding venue for tiny ceremony

I wasn't quite sure what section this fit in so I figured general to be safe. Looking for tips, suggestions, offers, etc for a venue for a wedding.

I'm eloping to Paris in april and having a simple legal ceremony here in calgary before departing. It was simple, until we started to get guests, and my wife to be informed me she would like the legal ceremony to be a photo op as well

We have 3 guests, the two of us and a commissioner. So far. I can't imagine it will get bigger.

So I'm basically looking for anything picturesque. Indoor preferred since it's April. Anything. Restaurants with a well lit photo op space that would accommodate this request. Indoor gardens. Art galleries. Churches. Heck, if you have a ballin' or otherwise magnificent house and will let me use it for half an hour for a few bills. Hit me up.

Preferably something cheap. I've spent enough on the real wedding. Most places in Calgary charge thousands for wedding ceremonies, regardless that it's only a few people.

    Any info is highly appreciated.

    Thanks!

That doesn't sound like you're eloping at all then, lol.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

If there is photos and a tuxedo and guests, it's not eloping.

That being said, you probably are on the right track with the restaurant idea. Somewhere that has a private room.

You realize you are talking to the guy who made his own furniture out of salad bowls right?

I know better than to argue. I like my sex life.

Just our two witnesses we had anyways and now her mom. Not the end of the world. No tux, she just requested pictures and a dinner after. So I'm just being a good fiance.

I think I'll have the best luck with restaurants. I know Vintage has a small private room available. And the wife did request somewhere with a good steak. Better go check the food forum for steak places...

Why not just do it at a commissioner's house, then go for photo op after? Costs you $175 plus whatever you pay for photographer.

FYI: Whatever photographer you're considering. Talk to them first. I'd say 90% of resturants are very difficult to light, the pictures will come back disappointing and there's nothing you can do.

Talk to the photog to go see the resturant. They all have dark ceiling and dark fixtures which make it "romantic" but tough to bounce a flash off of or get enough light.
I really don't know what I'm talking about, just relaying what my significant other has complained about when people hire her to do a resturant engagement photo shoot and she can't bring in any studio lighting.

Rouge has a nice garden that you can use. Building itself is nice. No promises on April weather

We had our ceremony at the Lougheed house: http://www.lougheedhouse.com/

I'm not sure what their cost is on a small ceremony, but it is a beautiful venue

We had our wedding at the art gallert on 8th ave near Jamisons. We really liked it and they had some funky artwork.

We've done lots of ceremonies like this at the bistro. Maybe worth a call?

See if you can use Gasoline Alley at Heritage Park... lots of cool old car stuff there...

We looked at it for our wedding, but they generally want larger weddings only there, but if its just a quick ceremony and pictures, they might let you in there...

This is my backup plan actually. Just seeing what I can throw together this week first.

Good advice. Photog is a friend, my witness at the wedding. Two birds one stone deal. I'm not expecting studio quality.

On my short list. $800 minimum food order for their smallest private room. Which is cheaper than many places.

Good looking place for sure. Looked in to it, they weren't too accommodating for a custom small ceremony, prices were a little high for what we needed. Would be great for a big ceremony though!

Honestly thought about it. Havent been there since the name change, was it remodeled too?

Wicked cool place! I sent them an email.

Thanks for the tips guys. Good to see some other peoples ideas.

That's not bad. $800 for 5 people at Rouge is pretty easy to get to.

Yea. The bar was redone, walls painted, new tables/chairs/etc.

I like it better now than how it used to be.

    Congrats on your upcoming nuptials!

My ceremony was at my home, with both sets of parents. Afterwards we met our close family at a restaurant. It was the most meaningful, stress free day of my life.

That being said, my husband and I are super lowkey.

Bonterra. Nice outdoor patio space that's small but will most likely have other people there. Worth looking into anyway.
