^ Doing it this way would have been cheaper and less intrusive than building a poured concrete structure.

Would be interesting to see the drawings that the city reviewed and signed compared to the ones that were IFC'd and the ones given to the steel fabricator. If the original drawings were wrong, then the city is going to take a hit, but if there were correct, then it all goes to the contractor and their subs.

It must be out by a mile for the contractor to not even comment. I wonder what the root issues are.

I think all they know is it doesn't fit.

    They don't really know if it's a design/manufacturing/installation problem.

This bridge is a huge clusterfuck. Didn't they already delay it once because they had to get welding done in Quebec?

Sorry, I mean, something like this... I can't see anything being cheaper than this unless you went pressure treated lumber.

According to this, there's nothing wrong with the bridge the way it is

I guess it has to be pretty or something haha. Further down Shag, my go to bridge going up for 7-11 access:

There is a need for the bridge between Canadian Tire and Northland Mall, it's crazy how many jaywalkers from SWC high school jaywalk there in the mornings and afternoons. I was one of 'em growing up haha.

I like the way one reporter called it an 'oversight'.

in LA they would have that thing waxed out in a weekend. You'd be going to work on Monday, "oh that looks new". Calgary construction is slower than pyramid building 5000 years ago

Depends on the issue. The overall length could be off on the pre-fabbed bridge section, the anchor points on the abutments could be incorrect, the anchor points on the bridge portion could be incorrect, the abutments could be incorrectly built or the sidewalks could have been incorrectly placed and don't allow a proper fit up.

The city isn't really explaining the issue and I'm not surprised the contractor is choosing not to comment.

Can't "wax out" poured concrete abutments and ramps in a weekend, no matter where you are.

Yup I'm betting one guy could've probably finished the bridge piece by piece out of lego by now.

Herald mentioned something is out by half an inch, which isn't much in construction. I'm sure everyone in construction has seen worse. No idea what is out though, at least there is an abutment.

That doesn't make sense. The bridge will expand and contract more than that from winter to summer. 1/2 inch is f*ck all.

lol wtf at you guys saying you drove by and could 'tell' it seemed too short, obviously the same people who can cruise down deerfoot and pick out who is rolling with winters and est. tread depth.

obvs it's only out by a small amount which is still enough to delay.

Who said anything about rolling with winter tires. I'm pretty sure the argument was when the vehicle was stopped?

Just like you know a bridge.. permanent .. not moving.

Even stopped, you wouldn't be able to look at it and see an overage or under of 10-12cm.

I'm going to put my prediction out and say that the mounting interface with the abutments is the issue and not so much the length.
