    Default Personal Income tax

Pretty straight forward I'm looking to file my personal income tax. My accountant moved away thus leaving me with the game of searching. it's a basic income t4 for myself, husband and 2 kids. I know there's lots of options to do it myself. I just don't feel comfortable

You could give www.simpletax.ca a shot as well too. I tested it out and the return was exactly the same as the one a family member did for me.

I've used StudioTax for at least the last 5 years. No complaints, but my return is straight forward.

I've used TurboTax, StudioTax, and SimpleTax. Also the old-fashioned paper way many years ago.

They're all good and easy to use, but I like Simpletax the most since it has a very clean interface and it's free. The others are perhaps a little better when you have a much more complicated return, but that doesn't sound like your case.

For those that aren't comfortable doing it themselves I can highly recommend Dorward & Company. They're Calgary office is pretty small but they are on top of things. I use them for my business & personal stuff. Stephen is the boss and Gerard knows his stuff.

Been using turbotax forever. My buddy is married with 3 kids and wife lost a job, and that was the first year he tried tubotax after me telling him how easy it is, and now he does his taxes all the time himself. It's a wizzard, you answer yes or no as things apply to you, it's pretty hard to screw up, and if you do, the government will fix it for you anyways.

Yea what do people see the rate of return for using an accountant vs 20 dollar software/free.

I imagine an accountant costs hundreds of dollars for a return. Do people feel like thier saving that much.

From what I understand filing in the US is 100% different but Canadian taxes are fairly straight forward?

Its my understanding that you are less likely to be audited when the return is efiled be an accountant.

It is also my understanding that returns with relocation expenses are typically more scrutinized than a normal return.

I don't have anything to hide but getting audited is a pain so for me, the peace of mind its done correctly is worth the few hundred.

On the same tack, anyone have a recommendation in town for a corporate year end / financial statements / tax return?

I have been speaking to one small firm via email, but they're very, very expensive.
