Now my question is why we need a temporary foreign worker driving a cab? My impression is that there is a lot of competition for the limited licenses in the city.

Looks like the brokers are trying to make as much money as possible by skirting the rules to get cheap labor.

Do cab drivers make different rates based on experience? I always assumed they just got a percentage of the fair no matter what the experience level is.

From my drunk conversation understandings the guys that don't actually own the cab/license pay a rental to the guy that actually owns it but then they keep the fares from there.

Right so this driver was renting the car from the owner. But the cab company still has to be taking a percentage.

first trip was free. then it sent me a code for a friends (wife used it) which gave her a a free ride and me 2 free rides. then on the weekend uber had a free weekend to get the public in on it casue the cabbiess want it shut down.

4 trips. zero $$, and i still have a free ride which wife will use tomorrow to get to work.

haven't waited longer then 5 mins for a ride either. much nicer vehicles then the shit cab that smell like ass
