I didn't read the thread and not sure if it's mentioned but what are the current ballpark leasing/financing costs of the R and GTI? Been thinking about one but don't want to get serious enough to show up at a dealer cause if I do that there's no turning back for me. lol. PM if need be. lol
I want to say the lease for the GTI is like $400-450 a month and R was like $550-600? Could be off, but that's what I thought it was around off the top of my head.

R would be over $600 slightly based on the rates.

GTI is cheaper to lease as its residual is almost 10% higher than the Golf R. GTIs are more plentiful so dealers may give bigger discounts as well.
    $330-350 for a base/manual GTI
    $600+ for a DSG/Tech Golf R

I think there's a 2018 LTO in the marketplace right now for ~$360? Base with DSG and Tech.

Damn that's not bad at all then. Worth looking into I guess. I had that 2012 GTI for a few months before I got the Jeep so kinda silly to think about the GTI again so was leaning towards the R considering AWD but if the difference is that big not sure it's worth going the R route.

Then a part thinks some sort of SUV would be a better option for the highway/winter beaters instead of a small hatchback which was part of the reason to get the Jeep in the first place. Just didn't realize how dome uncomfortable that thing was going to be at the time lol.

Jeep wranglers are shit on the highway. Lots of wind noise and hardly any sound insulation, also pigs on gas because they are a box on wheels.

Wrangler is fun for ten days a year when you take the doors off. Brutal every other day. An Ariel atom is more practical.

2 hours in the new wrangler gave me and the wife back spasms. Horribly dissapointing.

Haha indeed. But one of those things that you have to experience for yourself. It was something I wanted since I was 15 so at least now I've done that.

I am looking 'softly' so far as I don't want to make it official yet to the wife lol. Got pretty stern warnings last time after the Aston. I am all over the place, sometimes I am looking at SUV's like the Land Rover Discovery Sport, browsing GTI's/R's, checking out Lexus IS300/350 (currently leaning towards) new or a year or two old with max 10K km's. Maximum want to keep it around $40K ideally but maybe slightly more for the right thing.

Anyway, we will see. Taking the Jeep to Calgary today with the wife and hopefully she will come on board about getting rid of it after the uncomfortable ride. She drives it rarely in the city and enjoys it for the most part that's why doesn't think it's an issue. Haha.

I hear ya, and honestly, you are out there living your best life, owning every kind of vehicle. I'm just jealous. I love buying different cars. Haven't done it for two years now, and I'm getting the itch.

Gotta say the golf r was great on the highway, with the lane assist, adaptive cruise, adjustable suspension it was awsome.

I have to agree I love watching shak constantly going through cars. Envious of that time of life. It’s a good time to find what you want out of a car.

For the payment numbers being thrown around above, aren’t they totally dependant on term length and downpayment, etc.? Where’s the $600 coming from?

Where are these $330-350 base GTi leases? The website is more like $400-450, is there really that much negotiation room?

330 is downright cheap, what a great value, if it's real.

There have been several times since I traded the R for a truck that I miss it. Probably my favorite daily driver I've had.

    $368 for one with DSG ($1400) and Driver's Assist ($1750): https://forums.beyond.ca/threads/411...Lease-Takeover

2018+ has PP standard and arguably handles better than a R.

Sub $350 is doable if you get get a base manual. $330 if you go lower km or bring Mitsu to negotiate for you.

BTW, why do people say GTi? That's like saying WRx or AMg

I looked into it, the base tunes are pretty good for what I want to do.

I price matched Lightspeed and Vex. Vex wouldn't move on price and only 'match' Lightspeed which was kind of annoying but Lightspeed I've had some issues with delivery / invoicing. Kind-of disappointing experience on both fronts.
Lots of other dealers out there too!

Granted this was back in 2017, the cheapest lease quote I could possibly find on a GTI was a 3-door 6MT with zero options for around $375/mo in Red Deer. That was apparently at cost + $500. It wasn't great IMO. They might be better now that the model is about to get a complete overhaul and much needed update. The base 3-door GTI is very stripped down, most people wouldn't want them like that though I don't think. I never saw $330 but I can only speak for the time I was actively shopping.

The best lease deal was still the $299/mo Cadillac ATS 2.0T AWD for 24 months haha. Haven't see anything like that since though.

It is probably just the spark plugs. I would start with that.

Many people on the MK7 AB facebook group are changing them around 50k -60k
Yeah. Spark plugs first; then check the battery because I had that issue in another car where it kept misfiring but it was a battery discharged.

Yeah, the COBB base tunes aren't bad. Even on the FiST they're pretty good. We got the tune for the R from Stratified Auto out in BC - they're a great group and really good to work with.

Pricing it out on their site for a 2019 GTI with just the assistance plus pacakge ($17xx) and interior protection package ($3xx) the total shows as $37,480 all in. Which for a 60 month lease at 2.99% works out to $450 a month. On a DSG version not manual. This is with an allowance of 20K km's a year. So not sure how people got into anything at $300's and also if it was for a 5 year lease or less. Also this was a non-autobahn, non-rabbit (not sure what those versions add anyway).

Any Beyond people still at VW?

Yeah I have no idea how it's changed for 2019/20. I was talking to Ryan when he was still at Gary Moe in Red Deer. Part of the problem was they wouldn't drop the ~$500 bs admin fee, so if you found a dealer that would, it would be a bit cheaper yet. I tried to check my emails for exact numbers but all pricing was over the phone. I don't remember what the lease rates were either back then but it was for sure a 4 year and zero down. I don't think anyone has a $330-350/mo 4-year lease on a desirable model (5-door with options). If they do that is a pretty great deal or they put money down.
