Fair enough. Car has 58k now and is over four years old so it’s coming up for some thing I guess. I don’t think we’d attempt our own carbon cleaning job again, was a horrible DIY job on a N54 last time.

Carbon clean would be the last option, coilpacks and plugs most likely. I’ve done 200k km in a gti or golf r combined and never considered a carbon clean.
I have had 2 rs4’s notoriously bad for carbon build up and it still hasn’t required it.
That is sweet! Year, package, specs? This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Thanks! 2012, 100km, got it for 14k. Fairly basic, manual, sunroof, cloth, fogs. Set of brand new summers on the stock rims and a set of 1 year old winters on these modo's. I really am enjoying driving it right now. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

It is probably just the spark plugs. I would start with that. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

That is awesome, nice car! I am looking to replace my Volvo with a 2016-2017 Autobahn with a manual in the next couple months. Really like how these drive! This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Got an ECM recall on my 2019 GTI that's supposed to address stalling at a stop/low speeds.

I had something kinda similar with my 2010 Passat in the fall of 2018. Car felt slow and stumbled a little until it warmed up. It kept getting worse as it got colder out. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
I thought it was the coil packs but it turned out to be a bad injector and it had a leak at the top of the timing case().
It took the dealer 3 days to figure out what was wrong but the injector was under warranty (some how) so it wasn't too bad but still $$$$ because of the timing case and labor in the end.
Did they take the car in yet?

Zenops: Ok, but remember my dick is made of nickle.
It’s off warranty so it wouldn’t go to the dealer for any work, but it didn’t really get driven this week but the hesitation only seemed to happen when the oil and coolant were at 90 and 95-100°.This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I price matched Lightspeed and Vex. Vex wouldn't move on price and only 'match' Lightspeed which was kind of annoying but Lightspeed I've had some issues with delivery / invoicing. Kind-of disappointing experience on both fronts.

Lightspeed is notorious in the Subaru circles. Vex is reputable, but I kind of treat them like I only matter to them if I'm dropping money, they're not a good place to get deals.

Yeah I bought a lot of stuff from Vex for my STI back in the day. They're decent but yeah I also get a strange 2000 "Racers Edge" feel. Never had an issue with them though but annoyed me with the few thousand dollars I've spent there and just saying "Look, this is the price although I was mentioning a sale that ended a week before". I guess that is maybe a weird take to have on it, not like I'd expect that at bestbuy. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

Lightspeed did a tune on my buddy's R. Yeah I expected some of the shipping / communication issues he also experienced but I guess overall he's pretty happy. He also had issues with an intake getting shipped and he ended up just driving there. Haha

I wonder what the price premium will be for the TCR. There is so little room left in the GTI lineup - the price of a loaded GTI vs R is only a few grand, and now there is another model in between haha. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
The interior shots I've seen for the Mk8 look awful. They've gone pretty much all touch screens and touch pads. No thanks. And the auto "shifter" is now a little bean shaped thing that you... flick?
I'm a happy owner of a 2019 Golf R, which I got back in November. Full load with DSG, driver assist pkg (DAP), black pkg, and a Spektrum color.
First order of business when I first got the car was was a set of 17" alloys and studded Hakkas, and some XPEL PPF. The car is a beast in the snow.
I'm a bit indifferent on the DAP. I don't know if I would've spec'd it myself if I'd ordered one. Some of the proximity sensors are overly sensitive and make noise all the time (like when going through a drive-thru), others like the blind spot monitoring only seems to work sporadically. And I could care less about things like lane departure and radar guided cruise.
The only thing I don't like with mine is the black pkg, which means black 19" Pretorias instead of silver. I'm hoping I can find a fellow recent owner, or a prospective owner, who may want to do a swap with me.
No mods yet. Not sure I will until after a warranty. A stage 1 + DSG tune sure looks tasty though. In the mean time I've got my eye on a few accessories, like the euro spare tire kit and the Audi jacking point kit (can't believe the Golf has no jacking points other than the pinch welds).

I didn't read the thread and not sure if it's mentioned but what are the current ballpark leasing/financing costs of the R and GTI? Been thinking about one but don't want to get serious enough to show up at a dealer cause if I do that there's no turning back for me. lol. PM if need be. lol
