Hi. Not with VW anymore but still in the business.

Ask anything you like. Looking back on the last page one thing I will say.... every single dealer has some sort of fee or package. There's really no escaping it, unfortunately. It is the cancer of this industry.

Every single dealer or every single VW dealer? There are several dealers that do not have any 100% money grab fees whatsoever, and if it does exist, it can always be negotiated out at the right dealer. The fees are never mandatory for the customer, and if the dealership needs to have the fee on the bill of sale purely for optics, it can come out of the cost + profit that was pre-negotiated so the dealer is still getting the exact same amount of pure profit, but they can still make the sale look like the 100% money-grab fee was paid.

You are absolutely bang on. When I said it I was referring to VW dealerships in Calgary. Most dealerships off all other brands have something as well though. I would be shocked to see a dealer print you quote without either an admin fee, doc fee, protection package, maintenance package, or a combination of those on the quote. The greed is strong in this industry.

Just picked up a 2018 GTI In Edmonton.

Was able to negotiate to below MSRP + 1k bonus cash off and No AB package or any dealer add ons. GMVW was not able to beat the price or come close to it unfortunately.

Not making money on deals usually spells the end for Sales Managers pretty quick.... probably why Gary Moe had no interest in beating it after seeing someone gone recently.

    4-5 years = pretty quick?

Wonder how well GMVW will do once people from Calgary and Edmonton stop going there to buy cars

    That's some heavy handed speculation.

What did you pay above cost? That's really the only way to measure the deal. When I was shopping, getting a GTI quote below MSRP was as easy as asking but I don't remember what dealer cost was.

Don't dealers still make most of their money on volume kickbacks, hold-backs, and parts/service/protection packages? Lots of places sell cars for Cost +$500-$1000, and that can't be the main thing keeping them afloat.

I don't think 200 km (or 160 km, or 120 km) range is that big of an issue. I assume the target market is urban dwellers or families with more than one vehicle. I could totally get by with that kind of range without any impact on my lifestyle.
I am looking at the egolf for this exact reason. I commute ~80km/day, live in Edmonton, work in Fort Saskatchewan, it would be absolutely perfect as a DD for work and around town. I would probably have to have a second car or rent a car for longer trips though, but the savings in fuel (~$1600/yr) would offset that easily. If only we got $14k off like they do in Ontario I'd be putting my name on the waitlist today.

You're absolutely right... but owners/general managers don't love seeing their sales managers giving cars away and making nothing.
