Yeah but the GTI with performance pack in Canada is too close in price to the R especially if you add DSG. You have to get a base GTI or the R is better value in Canada.

I keep forgetting the r doesn't come with a sunroof. That's a deal killer for me as I use mine daily in the summer. Of course the cost of a sunroof is 1200$ or so. I don't think there is any word on when it gets released either.

I agree, if you're looking for bang for buck, great performance then go 3 door or a lightly equipped 5 door. If you're looking at a loaded R performance pack its worth getting into an R.

I doubt it, performance wagons don't work in NA.

Update, black R is now sold and gone. I do have a loaded Lapiz Blue, DSG, tech R that will be here late December if anyone is interested.

From what I've heard this will apply to the European models only but it's not confirmed.

I think this has to deal with the CO2 tax scheme in Europe. So having that wrong could impact revenue of governments.

R may be if they have a glut in Europe due to stop sale. GTI and below is made for Americas in Mexico so I don't think it will impact us much.

Don't the European models get slightly different engines in that they have DI and MPI fuel systems for both the GTI and Golf R?
