Yup, appears the recall is valid for the vehicle... Symptoms exactly as described, along with the good old "Service: Brake Assist" message that I used to get daily, sometimes multiple times a day, that the GM ERT said "Was due to my application of use of the vehicle", what a p*ss off....

Well looks like my 2014 Sierra was finally recalled for this.. I actually had the vacuum pump replaced earlier this year because I lost power brakes with low speeds so it will be interesting to see if GM refunds the money from that bill.

Not likely - esp in Canada where there are no laws that govern most auto sales (that protect CONSUMERS) or lemon laws.

GM is actually quite good at reimbursement for recalled items if you have receipts for proof. There’s a labor op in the recalls for reimbursement to submit when the recall is completed.

I’ve had a few years ago that got reimbursement no problem, some up to $900 repairs. Just needed a work order that showed the cause, repair and proof of payment.

They told me over the phone to bring the receipts so hopefully I get a reimbursement. We have 2 sierra 1500s (2014 and 2015) in our fleet and both had the issue and had the pump replaced.

Nice to see American cars are a still a fucking joke.

I was actually looking into buying a current gen Jeep Compass because it can tow.... did a quick Google search and ran the other way. This is a vehicle that is only a few years old. It's fucking 2019 and they still can't build cars properly?

    Wow, that "fix" though...

"So the main brake assist pump is getting all clogged up with oil sludge, and instead of doing something to fix the problem, we're going to band aid it and let the secondary pump do most of the work.... until it becomes clogged with oil sludge anyways. After that it's some other guys problem, I'm only the CEO for a couple more years until I get my golden parachute anyways, what do I care."

Wants to tow. So a compass is the obvious choice

Pretty sure it can tow as much as a civic

No wonder they were able to recall so many units. It’s just a software update.

The Jeep Compass can tow? surely you mean a bike rack with like 2 mountain bikes max, right? The listed 2000lb towing capacity isn't towing much, that's for sure.

and I did not have the only say in the matter (most people just want it done ASAP and don't care about quality).

If anything we made a better decision because we had a consensus and were all on the same page.

If you step up to a Cherokee, apparently those can tow 4,500 lbs with the tow package. I did see someone at a gas station with one and a pretty big trailer hooked up to it. I wonder if that's what he was thinking of. I always confuse those myself.

That just looks like a bad idea. Just because something has the towing capacity doesn't mean it is wise to max it out.

My Grand Cherokee with the Hemi has a capacity of 6150 and my trailer is 2800lbs. I think that is about perfect and wouldnt really want to tow any more than an extra 750-1000 lbs. But that's me I guess - not all that experienced with towing quite yet.

Why the fuck would anyone willingly buy a Cherokee? I mean, other than my dumb fucking self.

The best part of owning the Cherokee was taking it in for 7 warranty-related issues in the first year.

But yea, it can tow... on the back of a flatbed back to the shitty dealer that sold it to you.

^ It really doesn’t have much going for it does it lol.

A buddy of mine has one, I think he got it for almost nothing at least.

I bought the "Trailhawk", which included fancy rims, some interior stuff, a bigger engine that didn't do anything, and an atrocious 9-speed transmission that made me question my values.

Im probably the only one that buys vehicles out of warranty here, but I can tell you that based on my experience:

    - vehicles are getting more complicated (turbos, direct injection) due to emissions regs, mileage requirements, customer demand for features (eg. AWD for a summer city vehicle) and features that OEMs add to try to save themselves money.

The bean counters know know much a design can be compromised in terms of quality (saving costs) to maintain a certain level of profit with regards to warranty costs.

    Nothing else matters.

The Ford PowerShit transmission is a good example.

Email after email from engineers telling Ford that this will end up as a debacle, but the analysts did the math and figured they could still turn a healthy profit even with warranty issues.

Im betting the analysts didnt count on a class action suit and that the fundamental design issues could not be solved with a simple dealer visit.
