Default Current favourite game being played in your home

Not talking video games or anything electronic here with maybe the exception of Operation or the likes - what would be the current favourite game that is being played in your home?

For us, it's Crokinole - picked up a used board minus the playing pieces, picked up the playing pieces at North Hill and for $15 and change we've been having loads of fun. Kids thought it would be lame and hours have been spent on the Crokinole board during the past two evenings.

As such, I am wondering if there are other games played in other people's homes that keep the television, computers, tablets in an idle state. Board games, card games, whatever - old school stuff that doesn't involve integrated circuits in any fashion.

Certainly I wouldn't have expected this old Crokinole board game to be such a big hit in our home.

Ticket to ride is generally played here, easy enough for the kids, cut throat enough for the adults.

    Crib.

I try to teach crib to anyone who's willing to learn. Growing up, I didn't know very many people who didn't know how to play. Now I know hardly anyone that does, and even the people I used to play with as a kid don't really remember how anymore.

Haha, it's true. Oddly enough, it's one of the things that brought my wife and I together. We had a mutual friend and were hanging out at his place waiting for him to finish something, and I said "Hey, I'll show you how to play crib", and got to talking while playing.

Had alot of fun with card against humanity, did pictionary at our last get together and it was also a blast with the ~30yr old crowd.

Crib is my game... My Grandpa made me play for a buck a game when I was in the single digit age bracket and he didn't just let you win... lol! I used to play in legion tournaments for years. It is the only game I play on my phone haha! Sadly, my wife couldn't give a shit about it so I only get to play live with buddies now and again...

For you parents out there, there's a decent list of problem-solving games for school-aged kids on this website.

This dude is a guest teacher at my kids school, and I'm impressed by his methods. He's gotten some pretty good engagement from kids who think they don't like math and science.

We're going to be starting up family game night, and these suggestions will be our starting point.

    Caverna, amazingly good game.
I snicker at the "old school" reference, board games have had a massive resurgence. So many good games out now.

Snicker all you want, most younger people or teens/preteens don't know what Crokinole or Crib are - probably never even heard of them, to me these are quite old school games. Used to play Pinochle, Euchre and Bridge to a lesser extent as well in our home - many people have never heard of these games as well. Great strategy games that require a bit of time commitment and are a bit more taxing to play then many simpler card games.

I've got a collection of around 300+ games, and growing.

Introducing my family to all of them slowly, so far they are Ticket to ride and Catan addicts.
Others that went over well are Stone Age, Power Grid, Dominion, and Jamaica. I'll ease them into the more complex games, slowly.

Traditionally. Balderdash was our family game of choice though.

So true, whereas video games have had massive failures lately.

If anyone is interested in a beyond board game meetup just say the word!
