No, head office for North America Central is in Calgary. And they're always hiring!

I know some (many?) of you really don't care because you would consider the people working at this place about equivalent of monkeys or less, but Stewart & Stevenson is walking people out the door right now at their facility in SE Calgary off Shepard Road. Sad day for those affected, hopefully some can land on their feet elsewhere and maybe in an unrelated field, sometimes good can come out of bad.
    Will fuck off, again.

It's never good when anyone is a casualty of the current conditions. My husbands work is at a point of having to make the hard call to let people go, reduce hours, or continue to struggle.

Yea, oil tanked 5% on Friday. It ain't over yet folks, "peak storage" hasn't hit yet

Note the assumptions Bloomberg made when analysing the data is that oil production has flatlined... which it is still increasing week over week!

Sucks to hear but hopefully it's just a vacation and doesn't lead to anything else.

What's everyones thoughts on working in Iraq currently? I only know what i see in the news and my friends in kuwait/ oman say the news are blowing whatever is happening in iraq out of proportion, but again, they're not exactly in Iraq soo... I can only take their opinions with a grain of salt.

Some regions are def better then others or does the whole country suck? Thoughts?

    TIA.

It isn't blown out of proportion. The border area or Iraq-Kurdistan and many other areas are not safe. We work in the area but need many hurdles checked off before we send our guys in Iraq and Kurd. Full armed protection 24/7 is the norm.

Even the "good" parts of the Middle East aren't that great. I guess it depends on your life insurance situation and if you have any dependents.

Did you get severance? Doesn't that affect when EI starts?

(Asking you and also a general question if anyone knows?)

EI is a huge scam, they over collect and under pay. Basically it supports those "seasonal" workers.

If they were an actual insurance provider like they pretend, I would have dropped them and gone somewhere else.
If they were an actual insurance provider you would be paying considerably more every month.

Remember, the person making $200k/year pays the same EI premiums as the guy making $50k/year.
