Default Previously owned car was impounded

    Help beyond!

So I recently sold my old car to a car junker, and being the stupid me, I just signed the pink slip and handed it over to him without saving a copy of bill of sales or anything and thought it was done with.

No the impound lot has impounded the car because it has not been registered or insured and they're calling me about it.

What are some further steps of action for me to take?

I don't know the guys (car junker) name or his information anymore because I thought it was all over and done with after he took possession of it.

    Thanks beyond.

Ya thats what I was thinking, but I went through my phone and couldn't find our text message conversation... I must've deleted it after I got rid of the car thinking it was over and done with.

So basically, I have no way of knowing or contacting who I sold it to. Yes I know, in hindsight, it was probably dumb of me to have sold it without asking for any sort of receipt or anything.

Happened to me before, but not with a junker. The new owner decided not to register it and it got impounded. Months had passed so I lost his name/number.

I had to go to the registries, fill out some sort of sworn statement explaining that I do not own it and sold it on X day. Then I had to bring that to the impound lot to prove it wasn't mine.
We stopped checking for monsters under our beds when we realized they were inside us.

    ^ This guy is correct.

If you cant produce a bill of sale to the impound lot, you have to go to the registries and fill in a statutory declaration. It's got to indicate as much of the sale details as possible and the registry staff will sign it with you. You take it to the impound lot and they will remove the fees from against you.

Almost same situation happened to one of my employees recently - they sold their car to someone and that someone turned around and put a set of stolen plates on it. Move ahead a couple weeks, the car ended up finding it's way to the impound lot probably because the plates got scanned and didn't match the car. Never the less, my staff member gets a call from the impound lot because they were the last person on file to which the car had been registered to - she went down to a registry and filled out some special form declaring she had sold it to this other person and that took care of things. Similar situation, guy wouldn't sign his name to the bill of sale or even provide his real name to my staff member - myself, I would've walked away from the deal. Anyhow, just go visit a registry office.
    Will fuck off, again.

There's gotta be some legal repercussions for doing this? Is it worth it to make $100?

Thanks for the input guys. Going to the registry now to deal with it.
But if someone were to take the car out again (assuming the current owner) would that signify his entitlement? Or would i be held liable to the car given any future circumstances were to occur?

If he has the VIN and bill of sale can probably call it in stolen.

The moment you do the stat dec indicating you don't own it, it's not your problem ever again.

I know somebody this happened to and he went to the registry office to get it cleared but couldn't. This was years and years ago. Not sure if the reg office didn't believe him for that stat dec or what... few thousand dollars later, it got taken care of.

Like I said... it was a long time ago.

Happened to me. I sold a parts car and it got impounded. The impound lot kept harassing me for months and months over it. I told them I don't own the car, gave them the guys info that I had, and if they couldn't get a hold of them I didn't care if they crushed it or sold it.
