The Police are actually really quick to act in these situations. Show proof of ownership, show them the for sale ad, they will do the rest.

    great news@!

something aside, my car was broken in last night, nothing was missing, as i have nothing in my car..
something that i realized is that ususally these things happens more frequently in the NE..but now seems like no matter what areas/communities, thieves are everywhere.

looking to setup cameras pretty soon

    Story time

Back when I was like 16 and selling my bike on pinkbike I got a message from some guy saying he was interested. Meet him at the gas station on memorial and edmonton trail. Younger kid like me. Hes test riding it around the parking lot when he suddenly takes off. I try and catch him but hes gone. Immediately call the cops. 2 cars show up 3 cops total ask me what happened. I told them the story and the one cop asks what he looked like so I gave a description. Another cop asks me to start writing my statement. I head over to the car with him and start writing completely ignoring the other cops. Well it turns out, they knew exactly who it was the moment I gave the description. While I was writing my statement the other car had gone to the kids house and recovered my bike. Pulled back into the gas station parking lot with my bike hanging out the trunk of the car as I finished my statement. I am sure they enjoyed the win that day.

I heard about a year later the same kid stole some crazy high end bike from a professional biker that was in an accident and in a wheelchair. Needless to say the kid clearly did not learn his lesson or get any smarter about the shit he stole.

EDIT** Link to info about the news story. http://bb.nsmb.com/archive/index.php?t-61310.html

TLDR: thieves are dumb and do stupid shit. Cops really do want to try and get your shit back and if they know who did it, are happy to return your property to you.

Would be neat to hear more info on how you got them to actually do something about it.
Yeah, I'm pleasantly surprised to hear how quickly and effectively they responded.

Cameras probably won't do jack shit - two guys tried to steal my one son's Ford truck in broad daylight at noon earlier this week right in front of our house. They were even seen by my wife but she didn't think anything was out of the ordinary because at a glance the two guys looked very similar to my Asian son (truck owner) and one of his friends and the car the culprits had parked out front was very similar to one of his good friends. Now it doesn't help that he owns the vehicle that is most stolen in Calgary but it is very brazen to do something like this during the middle of the day - these two guys didn't care about cameras or anything else as they were out in the open on a street during the middle of the day trying to steal a vehicle.

Hilarious, no I'm not Asian and neither is my wife but we do sort of have an adopted Asian son by another mother who lives with us. We regularly call him our Asian son by another mother and he is quite cool with that and from a glance from inside the house at two guys wearing hats who were inside the truck making them difficult to see, I can see how my wife didn't necessarily recognize they were strangers.
