Default Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge

So as most of you probably know, the new phones from samsung are coming out on April 10th.

What are your opinions on them? Will you be upgrading to them?

I personally am more interested in the edge version. The screen and camera should be great.

But the battery...my goodness they went from 2800 mAh on S5 to about 2600 mAh (on the edge version). Reduction in battery size, plus a high quality screen makes me think the battery life is going to suck on this phone.

Also, would any of you happen to know what the best way of getting it outright would be? Best buy and futureshop stores will not let you buy phones outright. Even some carrier stores won't let you.

I personally am going to be upgrading to the S6 from my S4. This phone trumps absolutely everything on the market right now (according to the specs). Obviously all the Apple fanboys are going to say otherwise about how the iPhone 6 is still better.

Samsung Galaxy's are known for their shitty batteries so the unremovable battery kind of sucks but I'm willing to take a gamble on that and the no micro-sd slot doesn't bother me at all with all of the memory size options they have available and near ssd hard drive speeds. 32gb is enough for me.

I love the look of the S6 edge but $100 extra over the regular S6 for no additional features? I don't think I can justify that. The regular S6 screeen quality will be just as beautiful so I'm going to get that.

The two biggest reasons why I have bought Samsungs are now gone. It means I will probably look at everything from this point on....even an (gasp) Apple. ...can't believe I said that.

I think I'll be getting the edge when it comes out. The $100 difference doesn't get you much more, but I do like the look of it.

On the dimensions front, there are some minimal differences between the two handsets:

    Galaxy S6: 143.4 x 70.5 x 6.8mm (5.64 x 2.77 x 0.27in) and 138g (4.86oz)

    Galaxy S6 Edge: 142.1 x 70.1 x 7mm (5.59 x 2.76 x 0.27in) and 132g (4.65oz)

The bigger display on the S6 Edge has resulted in Samsung giving it a slightly larger battery:

    Galaxy S6: 2550mAh
    Galaxy S6 Edge: 2600mA

Battery should be fine, more efficient processor. Still has battery saving mode built in to make screen black and white which works great on OLED screen. I am going to upgrade to a 32gb from my N5. Might spring for the 64gb, not sure. I just know I would never get 16gb again. No microsd or removable battery for me is fine as the build quality looks apple quality. Metal and glass, no plastic.

This link I put in another thread.

Watch those videos if you are on the fence and it will convince you to get this.
I find the edge a gimmick though, especially the face down notifications, never do I put my phone screen down.

I really don't know if battery will be fine to be honest. Samsung always has been bad at having good battery life. Even the S5 at 2800 mAh had a lot of drain due to software not fully optimized.

What concerns me is the screen. With such high resolution and reduced battery... i don't know how it will do.

The LG G3 has a QHD display and a 3000 mAh battery, and even that drains fast (from my experience) due to display.

There was no reason to remove the sd card slot. Even the HTC One M8 has a SD slot despite a non-removable battery. Samsung is just trying to mimick apple, with their 3 different storage sizes.

I think i will wait and see for the battery results before jumping on the S6/edge.

I do like the design though.. it's very apple-like and appealing.

I'm only wary on the edge is you can't protect it with a case.

But Samsung got to do something different to try to fight off the cheap phone makers. Lenovo/Motorola all have solid cheap smartphones and that's not counting all other Chinese brands like Xiaomi, OnePlus and Oppo.

Apple seems to able to hold on to shares as Apple users has no other brands to cross shop.

Kind of with these cases I think.

I asked in the other thread but this is a better place:

    1) Is there sapphire glass on the camera?

    2) Is there MHL/USB OTG support? I don't think previous Galaxy's had it, which is a significant drawback.

I'm not too worried about the battery. 14nm processor tech, along with OLED screen & Lolipop (which is way more battery efficient) should be OK. It also has 10 minutes 4-hour charge and 30 minute 8-hour charge, which should keep most people going regardless. Hopefully the glass back prevents it from being as fragile as the new iPhones.

Honestly the camera is one of the biggest selling points for me now that I have a niece haha. Hopefully the tracking AF is at least decent.

Ringke makes them too. You'll never fully protect the rolled over edges, but this would be good enough for most people I'd think:

I don't think anyone getting the Edge wants to cover it up, since it's mostly a visual thing anyway (yes I know it has some limited functionality). Mostly it's just the cool factor though.

SGS5 supports MHL and USB OTG so I'd hope SGS6 has it

Oh, awesome. I read in more than one place that they didn't, so I am not sure what was up with that.

Edge sure does look cool but not sure if I will be taking it. I sold my BB Passport and I missed it not even less than a day later and picked up a brand new limited edition red version again. Ended up being $860'ish from shop BB. Any clue what's the price of the Edge?

    32GB: $750 no-term

    64GB: $360 on a 2-year term
    64GB: $860 no-term

    128GB: $470 on a 2-year term
    128GB: $960 no-term

Flip cover is good. But all other still left the edges exposed.

Quite steep, I will try to wait maybe for a while before it's a little more readily available.

EDIT: I noticed some Samsung Edge's already on sale on Kijiji, what are they if these don't get released until April 10th?

I believe it's a Galaxy "Note" Edge not S6 Edge.

F*ck it, I ordered a black non-edge 32gb haha. Might as well try out a Galaxy for a bit, super easy to switch if I don't like it.

Did you renew contract or buy outright?

    Where can I buy outright?

I ordered through our work supplier, so it will be a contract renewal. If I like it, I will outright buy one for my personal use as well, if that becomes an option. Has Samsung ever released a fully locked version of their phones like Nexus' are?
