Default Buying a car in AB to bring to BC

    Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone who knows the registries and laws here better than me would be able to tell me what the best way is to purchase a car in Alberta and bring it back to BC immediately? Do I have to register and insure it in Alberta first for the drive it through the province before I enter BC? If so, and assuming I leave the province in a day and get it registered in BC in a few days after that... do I get the rest of the 360+ days pro-rated? Anyone have any experience doing this?

    Thanks!

Are you purchasing this car new or used?

The first thing you'll have to remember is that if you do bring it over to BC, you're going to have to pay the PST on it regardless of which province it's purchased in (I could be wrong about this, but I've looked into purchasing a car in AB and there's not much way around not paying PST).

I believe you can get 'in transit' insurance to drive your car to your final destination, however before you can insure your vehicle in BC your car will have to pass an OOP inspection

dont know about going ab to bc... but for us here we go to the local registry and get an in transit permit and deal with insurance and registration once we are home and get it pass the out of province inspection... but i believe you guys dont have one of those... so you might be able to just get the vin and do everything before you leave bc and bring your new plates with you

Call ICBC get a 7 day permit. Allows you to drive from A. to B. They will fax it directly to registry or email.

Go to registry in alberta and get a permit 24 hours good enough.

    Drive back to BC.

Pay PST on vehicle./ out of province inspection etc

Make sure you have the reggy forms from the owner of the vehicle!!!!! ICBC will NOT take alberta bill of sale form only, they must have previous reggy form.

I have done this 10 times ++++ very easy as long as you have the reggy form from previous owner.
Sometimes you have to take a chance, whether that be on someone, or something!
